    Elements of a realistic campaign

No kidding! I just went there and downloaded Goffin manorial fief. Talk about a timesaver! And the production values of the downloads I've seen so far are very good. Although not 100% game system neutral or agnostic. Terms like "half-vilein" and Size 6 have no meaning for me.

    Give me your ogre fluff

In Grymwurld™ ogres are called trolls: Trolls Trolls are large humanoids known for their primitive and savage culture which glorifies warfare, headhunting, humanoid sacrifice, and cannibalism. Anti-intellectual, but few are their equal in combat. Throughout history, trolls have been called...

MORTALLY WOUNDED: Death / Raise Dead flavour change

I must admit that I really like where you're going with this. There are many stories of where the hero lingers on for a few days mortally wounded with just enough life to ride through the castle gate and say one last goodbye to their beloved and then falling dead on the spot. What I have been...

Thieves guilds and Assassins guilds 1E era

The only OD&D or 1st Ed. AD&D guild I recall is "The Thieves of Fortress Badabaskor" by Judges Guild. IMHO I don't see it as a Thieves' Guild per se. Just another dungeon really that has very little in common with the name.

How about merging the fighter and the monk?

I would make it light weapons. Maybe or maybe not also require Weapon Focus.

    D&D 3.x porting 4E healing surge/second wind into 3.5

I've had some good success in the following: All damage is non-lethal. When hit points are exhausted additional damage causes temporary CON loss rather than negative hit points. Standard rules for healing non-lethal damage and ability score damage. This allows a party to rest for a while and...

    Alternate Wizard Spell Rules.

You might want to consider adding feats into the mix, viz. Initiation into the 1st Circle, 2nd Circle, 3rd Circle, etc. Those feats allow the caster the ability to learn and cast 1st level, 2nd level, 3rd level spells etc. For my information, see my skills/feats/insanity wizard class in my sig.

What do players want from a homebrew?

Eltharon — What about the technology in Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Mallory? Full plate armor knights and heavy warhorses, elaborate tournaments, but no gunpowder, printing presses, rapiers, or pikemen?

What do players want from a homebrew?

DragonLancer — Do you mean the homebrew must be d20 (D&D) or is it enough to be OGL (Iron Heroes, Conan, Black Company)? Also do you expect the core races (dwarves, elves, halflings, etc.)? Or is Human and half-Human enough?

What do players want from a homebrew?

Inspired by the biggest homebrew thread, I am once again attempting to organize my Grymwurld™ material for publication both on the web an in .pdf format. Speaking from the perspective of a player, what do you look for in a home brew on the web and/or in .pdf files (free or purchase)? I guess I...

    Heroic Frequency

In Grymwurld™ adventuring is an anomaly but PC classed NPCs are not. There are mercenary companies who fight wars for pay (and practice brigandage in their spare time). There are orders of monastic knights (paladins & clerics) who go on crusades. The Druids and Rangers have similar...

    Iron Chef D&D Style

 OK that one made me spew Coke on my keyboard! DrunkonDuty — you're awesome!

    Iron Chef D&D Style

Just for fun, let's imagine the following: A group of adventurers kill some monsters and bring home their carcasses along with some exotic flora and tell their chef to cook it. Now you as the cook are very well paid by these adventureres and they have sophisticated palates. What do you cook...

    Name of Tekumel Maggot-Deity?

After a little digging I found this: I've always thought Sarku is a great undead deity and have shamelessly used him in a couple of campaigns.

    Name of Tekumel Maggot-Deity?

What was the name of the maggot-deity in the original [OD&D 1975/76] Tekumel game? Something like Sarku, Sarcu, Sarqu, Sar'ku, Sar'cu, Sar'qu?!?

What would YOUR World of Darkness look like?

Wraith: The Dark Ages I'd start with Vampire/Werewolf/Mage/Changeling: The Dark Ages and bring back Wraith but place it in 14th Century Europe. The Inquisition hunts down Vampire, Werewolves, Changelings as well as Witches & Sorcerers. The Black Plague is now a Romeroesque Zombie Plague due...

    capping D&D at 5th level?

Pawsplay, not sure if you're serious or not. Fireball of course is a legendary accomplishment IRL which is not what I'm writing about. Spirited Charge is not legendary in my opinion. On a related note, Sean K. Reynolds once postulated on his site that commoners gain experience from...

    Any female game masters?

The very first D&D game I ever played in was an OD&D game in the fall of 1977 at Butler University, Indianapolis Indiana. It was refereed by a woman whose name I forgot and never saw again. But she did such a good job that I was hooked!

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

A hah! That explains a lot: I never owned any copies of the Arduin Grimoire myself but one of my players in the late '70s loaned me his copy and I swear I must have had to make those two saving throws! :p Needless to say I never allowed any of the material into my game. The player in question...
