    Beguilers - too powerful?

I think the biggest strength of the beguiler is as a "5th man" in a party, even more so than the bard. It takes care of the rogue skills, face skills, and much of the more subtle magic. This means the guy who would otherwise be playing a rogue can now be a real warrior and be more useful in...

    Beguilers - too powerful?

Beguiler's main problem is that in combat in general it is a support class. But in every other phase it is very good.

Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts

Considering options like psion/wizard, wizard/beguiler, wizard/archivist, etc already exist (or dread necro/sorcerer/warmage for charisma casters), I'm not sure I'd be too concerned about a wizard/wizard. HOWEVER: The big problem with specialist/specialist is that you gain the benefits of...

Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

Disintegrate gets its own wonkyness because it essentially deals double damage. Hence the need for the save.

    MIC - Forehead palm

General comment: Spells/Items/Feats only do what they say they do. None of them will ever, nor should they have to, say what they don't do. That would be stupid talk, and increase the page count of every single book forever with pages upon pages of useless repetitive text.

Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

Basically. Without those caps, casters would be even more powerful because they could last much longer against stronger opponents than they can now, further relegating warriors and non-magical combatants to a "stand in front of the wizard until the wizard kills them" role.

    running a sandbox game: tips?

And for god's sake make sure they give you heads up on their plans. Nothing kills the mood faster than this conversation happening 5 minutes into a session: P1: "Hey, I know, let's go to the Barony of Flub!" P2: "Sweet, yeah screw this current adventure." DM: "Umm... yeah... I don't have...

Getting a hand free to cast a somatic spell

Generally moving things between hands is a free action. I believe a sage question in regards to the duskblade addressed this (though there it was using a two handed weapon and casting a spell).

    Animal Companions wearing Magic Items

I have plenty of friends whose dogs I would trust with a necklace more than a raging barbarian/frenzied berserker.

What can protect PCs from Blasphemy with incredibly high CL?

Grabbing the two examples from my previous post: Half Fiend ... ... Ancient White Dragon = CR 21 - HD 30. At minimum paralyzation. ... Elder Elemental = CR 12 - HD 24. Death. Damn that Monster Manual and System Reference Document with it's power creep! It gets even worse if you apply...

    Would this bother you?

I don't think this player quite understands the purpose of cooperative role play.

What can protect PCs from Blasphemy with incredibly high CL?

And yet DDM gives us a Half-Fiend T-Rex. Not sure if it printed in a book anywhere. But just because his example doesn't fit the RAW doesn't mean its not an issue. Slap it on a very old or ancient white dragon for instance. Or how about a 24 HD Elder elemental? That'll be CR 14. 10 level...

What can protect PCs from Blasphemy with incredibly high CL?

This is especially an issue when using advanced creatures. (The HD will advance much faster than the CR in most cases)

I don't know your answer, but who are you? I'm an NU 1L. (I played a CLR professor in Wigmore Follies, so that should allow you to identify me if you went to this years show)

    Frenzied Berserker+Exotic Weapon Master+ Barbarian= broken?

FBs can't do much besides hit things while frenzying. Just solid fog them, and drop some area spells on the fog. Then wait for frenzy to end.

    Cohort equipment

Per the leadership rules, a cohort starts equipped as an NPC of their level (see the chart in the DMG). Any future equipment gain depends on how your party plans on handling the cohort situation. The DMG suggests a half share of loot. If you have particularly stingy party members, this may be...
