Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

I think that, depending on how 4e defines terrain and the combat grid, the ground may prove problematic. It will be interesting to see how the rules actually shape up on this (or if Force Orb actually got a minor tweak before the final printing). This could be approached from a Platonic...

    Saves End w No Action?

I think that we are expected to assume that characters are "doing" things throughout the round. So, presumably, a character is ducking, dodging, weaving, parrying, and thrusting pretty consistently. When under a condition that negatively affects him, a character takes some penalty (like a -2...

Exactly...and possibly destroying the table in the process... DC

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

But there is another factor to this. Let's say I used my minor action mage hand to move a rock to float into said empty space...there would be the exact same breakdown of creatures and, likely, simply one more rock. Add in the fact that in 3e as mentioned above we have rules for targeting a...

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

Again...see above and please demonstrate (versus my example) how this is making it AoE rather than targeted? DC

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

Correction: hit points in every edition represented more than physical wounds. Now (for the first time) "healing" reflects more than just physical repair. DC

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

That depends on what you change into. Certain forms lend themselves to reshaping the logistics of the battle. That said, I could see shaman as controller and druid as leader just as easily. They transform themselves and others, in whole or in part, to battle their foes and perform better. DC

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

I think you misunderstand. When you target the floor, it becomes the target. You cannot use the spell otherwise. My point is that allowing Force Orb to target the floor as an object does NOT make it a burst because a burst would not need to be targeted in the first place. Again, my example...

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

Because Force Orb has a target and not an area, you cannot shoot it blindly. You cannot say, I shoot into the darkness so that it bursts in 20 feet. It must be aimed at something. You must be able to see it (or perceive it in whatever way the character in question perceives. That does not mean...

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

For primal power source, perhaps... Druid - Primal controller, using wild shape and nature manipulation (entangle) to change the logistics of the battle field. Shaman - Primal leader, using primal power to embolden those around him by granting totem abilities to others Barbarian - Primal...

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

We know there will be. They've actually indicated the psionics rules were being created along with the arcane, etal rules. They need them for Eberron if nothing else. With the second point, the same could be said about arcane and divine. I think the ways that they are defining the three power...

Force Orb: Secondary attacks on a miss?

LOL What I mean is for the "strict interpretation" group who don't consider the ground to be an object, there is no need to fudge. A rock (pebble) that happens to be on the ground is definitely an object, whether the DM in question rules that the ground is or not. DC

    Of Primal and the Barbarian

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

So if we had 8 classes again and 3 power sources: Ardent (psychic leader (but more like the divine mind and less like the ardent)) aura "Gifts" that augment those around them Barbarian - (primal defender (striker?)): Rites that inspire / inflict rage / terror and call upon the power of beastly...

    D&D 4E 4e Psionics speculation

I like the idea of the mindblade becoming a class feature of the psychic warrior as a defender class. I like how the different power sources have distinguished themselves so far... Arcane = ranged basic attacks from spells / features; other powers that draw upon that. Divine = some class...

D&D 4E 4e skill system -dont get it.

Because its fun. I could create a combat encounter that for which I say, okay...who has the best attack modifier? Okay Mr. Fighter, you roll against the hardest AC. Now who does the most damage? Okay Ms. Warlock, roll damage. Ooops...didn't kill the weakest bad guy. Now they get to try the...

I was unconsious 20 minutes ago, but I'm ok now..

IMO, this argument is fallacious because for #2 (1st - 3rd ed) the determiner becomes 1 character's spells per day rather than 1 character's hit points AND that character is hamstrung into being the bandage for the whole party, making it a party-impacting loss of daily resource every time a...

Force Orb: Secondary attacks on a miss?

No need for the cheese...Just target a nearby rock or pillar. Objects are likely to have low Reflex defense and they've said that combats will involve much more in the way of interesting terrain features. DC

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Not all of the current classes are strict role keepers. The core four are; that is to say, Fighter is pretty much only defender, cleric basic leader, rogue basic striker, wizard basic controller. That said, the other classes are naturally a bit hybridized. Warlord clearly has some defender...
