I was unconsious 20 minutes ago, but I'm ok now..

Finally! Someone understands! All this time that's what I've been trying to say! "Doctor! It appears this woman was an adventurer." "How can you tell?" "Adrenal glands the size of baseballs and no bladder or kidneys." "No kidneys: I don't understand..." "When was the last time you saw an...

    D&D 4E Seeing through Illusions in 4e

To me, the difference between Perception and Insight is the "human" element. Insight is sense motive, wild empathy, innuendo, etc. You are being intuitive about a person or creature. Call it "sixth sense" perhaps. Perception is the main 4 or 5 senses (taste really being the same as smell). You...

Calling upon the power of the gods to restore your companion's resolve and energy but -- as with a body's use of adrenaline -- each individual only has so much "oomph" in them and eventually, barring the benefit of great magics, it just runs out. DC

This is only partly true... D&D has long had an inherent contradiction when it comes to HP. Since 1e at least (didn't play before that) there was hand waving and various luck, stamina, dodge, and physical harm to explain hit points. Same old same old. BUT Somehow restoring stamina, luck...

    Taking Prisoners

do you mean eladrin? tieflings don't have an innate teleport ability that I know of... I would rule (even house rule if need be) that teleporting like this cannot be done "blindly" so you can choose to teleport "to that place I can see right now" but not "30 feet left, wish me luck" as this is...

Try this: Fixing 4e hit points Honestly, to me, what you're describing is not a "rule" of hit points, as it were, but a plot point. Use the above thread stuff or just say, "Thrug, as you rest up from the battle from with the priest of Bane, you realize that the slash in you side is much worse...

    Power Source / Role Query

They have given some indication of mechanical effects... For example, the divine power source appears to be the home of power "categories" that draw from a single source but have varied effects. Divine Channeling is a key example. Divine channeling is an encounter power but during each...

    R. Thompson : D&D still a sim/gamist RPG

This is a issue of milieu / environment and trust. I have played in groups where I create a totally twinked out character with a token background. In combat, I always made the choice of what was most tactically sound. Why? Because I didn't trust the DM not to penalize me for creative problem...

    R. Thompson : D&D still a sim/gamist RPG

In my experience, and in reading on these boards, simulationist has nothing to do with role playing and neither does gamist. Sim = realist / zero suspension of disbelief. Rules are designed to simulate the real world rather than approximate it. This is not to say that sim games cannot have...

    Afterlife in 4th edition

Which is actually even weirder...you survive death to join your god...but you don't really remember who you were or what you did to get there. You may have worshiped the god of friends and family but you don't really remember yours anymore. Hoping to see Aunt Suzie? Well there she is but she...

    Afterlife in 4th edition

I believe it was for an increased sense of mystery. In Games of the Past (tm), I think there was a sense that people knew more about what happened after death than they knew about what was going on in the world. Past: Bill: Johnny's dead but he always worshiped Mystra so lets take a trip to...

    Extended Rest and Dailies

Uh...that's what I said. You get your dailies back after an extended rest but you can only take advantage of that once in a day. Am I taking crazy pills here? I was responding to a suggestion that an extended rest taken less than 18 hours after your day began would restore HP but NOT restore...

A suggestion to 'fix' hit points.

Perhaps add a massive damage threshold to this. Take a single hit equal to your bloodied (or surge if you want more danger) number, you move down on the condition track. I think healing injuries would be a ritual requiring some equivalent resource expenditure. If it would normally take 1-2 days...

    Afterlife in 4th edition

Of course this is as a default cosmology. In Eberron, there will still be Dolurrh where everyone goes and pretty much dissolves. In Greyhawk, people will still hobnob with the angels, devils, and modrons. If you want Valhalla, have Vahalla. DC

    Extended Rest and Dailies

I believe you have this backwards. Dailies replenish after a extended rest, not according to a clock. If the quick rules are direct interpretations of the final rules, then if you adventure from 06:00 to 13:00 and then extended rest until 19:00, you regain your dailies. If it is the case...

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

I accept that what I'm about to type may be deemed crazy and get me branded a brainless 4e lover but here it goes. I (note the self referential term that does not apply to anyone else) find myself interpreting many comments about the lack of descriptiveness in naming conventions baffling. Why...
