    Random Speculation on Psionics

I think you may be right ... though i could also see the psychic warrior killing the soulknife and taking his stuff and not having a psychic striker at all. or perhaps having a wilder / lurk combo for the striker. The psychic warrior might choose mind blade as a possible class feature... I...

Hit Points, Healing, "Realism" and the Missing Piece of the Puzzle

One of the zombies dies instantly if it takes a certain amount of damage (I believe its blooded amount) from a single hit. I suppose if a single strike dealt damage to a character equal to their bloodied amount they would gain an injury of some kind...I don't know if this number would come up...

Do We Know (Officially) when Barbarians and Druids will be Released?

Hmmmm....have we ever tabulated how many times per new edition the following point needs to be made...I wonder: WotC is a company, business, corporation. Of course they are trying to make a profit. If they were not there making a profit, we would not have a game to play without creating it...

    Dogs

Desire not capacity. Rats learn more readily than dogs in laboratory studies but they don't idolize humans so they tend to throw less effort into it. Honestly, this is a minor enough point that I'd just say to reduce the training DCs by 2. Mostly though, it is needless complexity in my opinion. DC

Do We Know (Officially) when Barbarians and Druids will be Released?

Marketing & production schedules. On a marketing end, the two books could be perceived to compete with each other, with some buying one but not the other. This is a poor business choice for WotC. On a production end, they are already doing full print runs on 3 books, which represents an...

    Really Really Bloodied ?

realism =/= fun plus...as I posted in another thread (one as it turns out it was off topic for...my bad for misreading the post): "HP loss does not equal physical damage" This has always been the case in D&D, with each edition doing its own version of hand waving about it. Finally in 4e we...

    Psionic Powers?

Talents and Gifts are fun I think Psychic Talents has a good ring to it, like Arcane Spell and Divine Prayer. Disciplines feels to...well categorical rather than particular. I was never in the Science / Devotion camp. Even when I played 1e and 2e I thought those were silly names. I also like...

    D&D 4E Do you like 4e?

At the time of this post, yes. Likely to remain so. Honestly, with half of my gamers being more interested in how interesting their background is than in twinking out a character, having a more unified set of rules with clear options will make it possible for me as GM to create games that...

    D&D 4E 4e - Is the Terminology the Problem?

Yes...I suppose this is true...but one side effect of said language is that the presuppose and force a specific subgenre on the game. If I want to use the Deadlands rules to play a non-western horror game, I still have the western horror terminology in place. Of course, this would beg the...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

Have you not paid attention to the design concept for the planes in 4e? Gone is the endless reach of empty space that only 9th level spells could get you to. The Astral Sea is full of places that could be reached by other planar denizens and intrepid miners to do a little mining. DC

    D&D 4E 4e Healing as Plot Device

I apologize if my responses came off high-handed. I appear to have misinterpreted the purpose of the thread...in reviewing it again I see it was my error. I had though this was a discussion based upon explaining how healing worked in light of a perceived 4e HP = physical damage issue rather than...

How many spells each day and each encounter do we truly get?

You'll note I admitted to making an assumption. We also know (from the list of 10th through 13th level wizard spells) that in this range there are no at will and a mix of per day and per encounter. They are not, apparently, upgrades of earlier powers either. So the Paragon/Epic idea is not as...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing as Plot Device

My only point, which I won't belabor, is that this thread appears to be proffering a solution for a problem that does not exist. If HP loss =/= bodily harm, then rapid HP recover =/= rapid bodily healing. If there is no rapid bodily healing, we do not need a mechanic, plot device or otherwise...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing as Plot Device

Let's all repeat this together... "HP loss does not equal physical damage" Good. and again... "HP loss does not equal physical damage" Great. I think we've got it. And since HP loss does not equal physical damage (see above), healing completely after 6 hours is not some amazing miracle of...

How many spells each day and each encounter do we truly get?

Well, by default with the pregens at least, 1/4 of a character's powers are per encounter (2 at will, 1 encounter, and 1 daily). These are adjusted for with the divine, arcane, martial uniqueness described above (though warlocks do not seem to have any of the wizard benefit). Additionally, at...

    At-Will Power Progression

Everything we've seen so far denies this to a great extent as well. The six classes all start with (base) 2 at will, 1 encounter, and 1 daily. Additionally, the powers are listed in the book as "Daily" and "Encounter" so it would be confusing to try to figure out if they were still that or if...

    Psionic Powers?

So we have the following nomenclature so far: Martial powers = exploits Arcane powers = spells Divine powers = prayers What will they call psionic powers? In the past it has been "powers" but this seems like it will cause confusion. Similarly, what will they call shadow powers...

Do characters get more encounter/daily "slots" as they level?

considering that the only class we've seen that needs to "prepare" anything is the wizard, I would hazard that any at will or per encounter power a character has can be used at any time (within the limits of the power). i'm guessing that at the same rate that other characters gain dailies...

    No Rituals for Warlocks?

Erias the sample cleric has Arcana trained and no feats indicating that he has any bonus skills. He also has ritual casting. So ti could be that cleric and wizard start with it and others must learn it. Or it could be a class feature. I'm fine with only those two classes have automatic / easy...
