You don't see any difference between persuading someone and determining what the runes mean?

Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to Use

I didn't notice that but I suspect that's just poor wording on their part. If you can't upload a map to the free version there's no reason to have a free version since you couldn't have any maps. Time will tell.

From the 2024 PHB, it hasn't changed. Ability Checks An ability check represents a creature using talent and training to try to overcome a challenge, such as forcing open a stuck door, picking a lock, entertaining a crowd, or deciphering a cipher. The DM and the rules often call for an ability...

I can hope that the junk email I receive really is going to reward me with a million dollars if I click the link but it's probably not going to happen. I can convince a friend to loan me lunch money because I forgot to stop and get cash. Player A is changing the reality of runes that were...

The success or failure of an action is determined by whether or not the D20 rolled by the player plus the modifiers to that roll meet or exceed the target number. That's where the simulation ends. Anything else is just fluff for the purpose of adding color to what is happening in play. How...

This is my issue as well. Different games work differently? I'm glad, life would be boring if everything was the same. Saying that narrative games and D&D-like games work exactly the same is the issue. Embrace the difference, celebrate the uniqueness, find your joy. I don't understand why...

But there's a big difference between final authority and referee. That's the basic assumption of the game as spelled out in the books so it makes sense most groups follow that. Absolute power over the players has totally different connotations.

Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to Use

I see no reason to believe that. People use Maps for homebrew and custom maps as well, it wouldn't make any business sense for them to block those.

You can always import images, make your own maps and so on. So if someone has access to the map they can download the jpeg, give it to the DM and the DM can then import and use it. There might be some new bells and whistles I don't know about but the basic map is not really an issue.

Truth. You can pick your friends. You can pick your nose. You can't pick your friend's noses. :)

An exit makes sense in that it may have been used in construction of the dungeon or some other purpose. Perhaps it was used as an exit for the workers until it was sealed and they were either transformed into the undead or used in some dark ritual to create the undead, something I might hint at...

Better explanation than mine. If the player is spending meta-game points* to get what they want with associated risks, that's not a game I want to play but it makes sense for that game. If the game is trying to be even a crude simulation and the hope that the runes were a map has no power to...

Again, you're missing the point and I doubt you will ever accept what I say at face value. So let me try a slightly different explanation. When watching TV or movies I have a low BS meter. For example I think The Matrix movies are stupid even if they are pretty. There are so many things that...

My cat sneaks up on me all the time. The other day I was looking for my keys and they were right in front of me. I don't expect any explanation for it other than I didn't notice. Take a look at this article to see how much we miss on a regular basis Why We Stop Noticing the World Around Us...
