I think the issue with that is that it greatly limits the options for the players. What is wrong with having characters that may not be optimized as a team, but still cooperate and are fun to play? While some players do not mind this limitation, others like having opportunities.

I am interested in this game myself. Concept: An aspiring mistress of blades, gaining experience to bring her closer to mastery. I am thinking of a Sword Sage (from Tome of Battle), later multiclassing as Invisible Blade (from Complete Warrior) or Kensai (also Complete Warrior).

Have you considered the Scout (from Complete Adventurer)? The scout is kinda the combination of a Ranger and a Rogue, at least in flavor.
