    On WotC's "Surge"

I agree, it appears that WotC is thrashing about. Successful companies don't tend to do that. It could very well be that Essentials did not produce the desired outcome. Heads rolled (or are going to roll). Another explantion for the seeming thrashing behavior is changes in leadership...

Help! Should I go paper or digital at this point?

With the recent news (book cancellations) it appears WotC is shifting more toward digital products. But right now, D&D seems to be split right down the middle. If I want to buy Essentials or other sourcebooks, I must buy the paper. There is no digital version. If I want to read Dungeon...

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

Dropping the books introduces a new problem for me. Reading eZines online is one thing, but reading volumes of material posted online is another. I can't comfortably huddle over a computer screen for that long. That's why I buy books. OK, so e-reader devices are getting popular. However...

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

Board games. Board games! We don't need no stinking board games! :p Clue with Bugbears? Monopoly with gold pieces? Trade my Class Compendium for Chutes and Ladders with Elves? :p No, there has to be something else going on behind the scenes they can't talk about yet.

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

Sorry, I was speaking in jest. The mood here seems so dark, I was trying to lighten things up a bit. Heck, I even caught myself doomsaying this evening. Whatever happens, D&D is still my favorite game, and that won't change anytime soon. We are discussing a game! This ought to be a...

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

Well, there is one reason why they might drop the crunch and push the fluff...dare I say it? Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition [ducks]

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

That's weird, the wind is blowing toward the storm...:hmm: I wonder why there have been many sudden changes in direction within the last year? -From hardcover to digest -From digest to hardcover -From 4e to Essentials -From Essentials to ??? -Rapid shifts in how DDI material is...

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

All I could do after reading this was stare into the screen and blink. My optimism is starting to fade. I was OK with delays and schedule shuffling because I thought it meant they were planning to spring something cool on us. So what has happened to cause them to pick apart the 2011 schedule...

    Another delayed WotC item

I hope the shuffle of the 2011 release schedule means they are planning to spring something cool on us. As for the delay, I don't mind. I'll still buy I want in April instead. In the meantime, I have not even read many of the books I have purchased. I'm always behind on that sort of thing...

    Class Compendium: Gone?

Yep, I've never had trouble finding these items before and now I can't find them. There has obviously been some kind of shift in the release schedule, but they are not saying anything yet. Of course we don't know the facts, but the evidence so far points to a pretty significant shift in the...

    January and Beyond!

I don't know if it is a good or bad sign, but I do feel like something is up. Ever since Essentials was released, it feels like WotC is holding back information, perhaps because of some big decision that may impact the release of several previously announced products. I bet many WotC...

    Fortune cards.

I'm interested in these cards. I'll probably buy some. However, I'm not afflicted with the Pokemon syndrome; I don't gotta have them all.

    Edition Fatigue

When the 2e came out, I got excited and stopped playing 1e. Then 3e came out, I got excited and stopped playing 2e. When 3.5e came out, I didn't get excited but bought all the 3.5 books anyway. When 4.0 came out, I was leary because of 3.5, but then got excited and embraced it. When...

    Class Compendium: Gone?

Hum...I just saw Heroes of Sword & Spell on Amazon just a moment ago. Release date of Feb 15, 2011.

    Essentials (Comments)

Falling is a strange thing. My daughter's porch has only one small step. Of course, while backing away from her door I fell and broke my leg. That four extra inches put me in a cast :-S

    And in 2011...

Heroes of Sword and Spell is what stands out to me. I like it because I dread dealing with the classes that have a ton of errata to deal with. I like new and shiny things, so I probably pick up every 2011 D&D product I can get my hands on.

    Newer classes in older adventures?

Thanks for the direct and helpful replies :) I appreciate your help.

    Newer classes in older adventures?

My players really like the new Essential classes; however, I have a handful of old 4e adventures that I would still like to run (P1-3, Revenge of the Giants, and some older 4e Dungeon adventures). Can I simply play the adventures as written without encountering any major problems/headaches? Or...

Rules Compendium - Chaos Scar on map!

*Title corrected* Just wanted to throw this out in case someone hasn't seen it. On page 39 of the Rules Compendium, there is a small map of the Nentir Vale. While looking over the map, I was surprized to see the Chaos Scar listed on the map, just west (left) of the The Withlight Fens...
