PCs and the people that love them

Sometimes. When we take the Leadership feat, we usually ditch the followers or leave them behind to watch the horses or hold down the fort. We keep the cohorts around though.

How much of your work-day is actually spent working?

Depends. On a bad day, I work about 9 hours of a 12 hour shift (75%). On a good day, its more like 3 hours out of a 12 hour shift (about 25%). The last time I was at work, I spent most of the day reading and napping and planning games.

    Pen & Paper?

Yeah. I was there just yesterday and noticed that it appears to be dead in the water. There seems to be a trend towards increasing popularity of EN World which is causing a decrease in popularity of other DnD sites. I can remember a few years ago when mortality and the WotC boards were both...

    D&D Goes International

Hey, the Germans are really funny! :D In Tennessee we play with some of the rules already mentioned from Alabama and Georgia and Kentucky. In addition to those, we also use these house rules and guidelines: 1. Everyone gets a +2 bonus to Diplomacy (thanks to that Southern Hospitality) 2...

    New Game Location: Work

Several years ago I worked at a lab that was eventually closed down. The last 3 moths we were there, it was a lot of sitting around with nothing to do. So a few other gamers and I would go down to the conference room and game for the whole shift. We had a big table, nice chairs, a breakroom...

    What's your favorite Superhero movie?

I think he's getting at the fact that Batman doesn't have any super powers. Therefore he's not really a "super" hero. I couldn't decide between the original Superman or the Original Spiderman. In the end I voted for Superman, because it does such a good job and has held up well over the...

    [June] What are you reading?

I've been re-reading some old horror stories while I await my next shipment of books from Amazon. I've also been reading some Bradbury short stories.

    "PCs usually die of stupidity"

Not knowing when to quite, or just not wanting to quite. I used to use some house rules that made combat more grim and gritty so they would stop and rest more, but it was mostly futile on my part.

    Evolution/Revolution of industry

Nope. I’m about 2 posts from getting this discussion back on track. So you’re calling me a geek? By your own admission, most people reading this thread are geeks, so I’m not sure that’s really a bad thing. Furthermore, the behaviors you describe (the tendency towards memorizing the minutiae...

    Evolution/Revolution of industry

one other thing, Here: you seem to be saying that objective research showing gamers to be fairly normal is flawed because the sample is skewed to favor white college males. But previously you said, based on your own personal anecdotal evidence, that most gamers were less than normal. So...

that's cool. I've heard of some of his work and I've seen "Designer X" somewhere before. Didn't recognize his name though. It's interesting that Seems he's a step ahead of the rest of us.

    Evolution/Revolution of industry

There is almost 300,000,000 people in America. How many of them play football? Um... nothing... did I say that Star Wars wasn't pop culture? (of course I don't play star wars RPGs either... though I'd like to) See. More dumbing down. Then they wonder why our kids can't spell. Didn't you...

Thanks for that. I was about to ask you that very question. I think its crucial for us to understand where this line is in the minds of many of the people who play PnP games. Well, don't forget that there isn't as many young people playing PnP games as there used to be. A lot of the reason...

no Gareth. I was pointing out that you have been working very hard on D20 and have done some great work and Eyebeams shouldn't insult you and say that you just churn out books about elves. I guess you can't tell when someone is being nice to you. That conflicts with your previous statement...

    Evolution/Revolution of industry

I've been waiting for someone to say this. I think perhaps you don't like it because your tastes are different. I do know from other posts you've made that you have a fairly eclectic interest in music that I can not and do not find inferior. You like things that I don't like, but I can at...

Ugh! Just… can’t… help... my… self links? More info??? I’ve talked with Anthony Valterra about this (when he was still with WotC) and he told me that there was very little psychological research on gamers available. And he said that such research was very expensive to conduct, so there...
