    DDI Group Penetration

My best guess: How many people in the group have DDI subscriptions? 7 (out of 7) How many of those people spend time behind the DM screen for the group? 1, but one player DMs another game that no one in this group plays. How many are players only? 6, but see above. How many also keep up...

Players don't provide wish lists... What would you do?

I hate magic item placement in 4e. It's time consuming, thankless, and my players wouldn't give me wish-lists either. And the few times they did, it completely broke immersion to have the players say, "oh, that's the (blah) I wanted." So for the latest campaign, I switched to inherent bonuses...

    Dead Rising Encounter too tough

I went through and compared the 4e version to the 3.5e version, and you're right. As I recall, this encounter and the dwarven encounters in Act 5 are new. They're also the weakest, in my opinion. The dwarf encounter doesn't feel quite as tacked on as Dead Rising, but the execution just seems...

How do you plan role playing?

    Great stuff.

Can you help a bored DM?

My group switched from SoW to WotBS last week. We've only had one session so far. I really like WotBS a lot, but it may not be the best campaign for a hack-n-slash group. It has a lot of role-play elements and takes some effort on the part of the DM to understand and bring to life. The nice...

Can you help a bored DM?

Agreed that the boredom comes from KotS. Also, combat takes a while in 4e, so even a hack-and-slash group needs some interesting downtime between combats. Scales of War has some great set-piece battles. It's also wall-to-wall combat with minimal exploration or RP elements. My group played it...

    Roleplaying stat blocks - SPOILERS

SPOILERS Mike Mearls' recent skill challenges column had an interesting idea in it: roleplaying stat blocks. Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Stat Blocks for Roleplaying) I'm using this idea in my Scouring of Gate Pass game, with a few minor additions. Here's...

    Flaganus vs. Module Plot

That's awesome. I hope I would have done the same. To be clear, what I object to in this encounter is allowing "instant win" diplomacy/intimidate rolls to cheapen the emotional aspect of the encounter. Truly creative and interesting solutions like this one add to the weight of the encounter...

    astral seal

High-heroic pacifist cleric in my group had it, but rarely used it. He had three or four minor heal actions and preferred to use his standard action to daze opponents. Wasn't OP in our group.

Can you use the run action twice to move 16 in a round? n/t

The elven druid in my game has a speed of 8, so he can run 20 squares in one round. And he plans on getting powers/feats to boost that performance. Don't think there will be any enemies running away in this campaign.

    Do Something Cool

Exactly. I made the same mistake when I first started DM'ing 4e--I'd require a skill roll plus an attack roll, and I offered piddly benefits, like an effect with no damage, for doing so. My players quickly stopped trying. For my new campaign (which starts tomorrow, woot) I'm modeling stunting on...

    Spoiler free Adventure Path recommendations?

Did you really mean to say that nothing is worse than Pathfinder? ;)

    Flaganus vs. Module Plot

My group is starting our WotBS campaign tomorrow, so I haven't played this encounter yet. But it's one of the ones that stood out for me on my read-through. I like it because it establishes, early on, that this is a campaign world where there's consequences beyond winning or losing a fight, and...

    Infinite damage at level 1

I'm surprised no one's mentioned turning it into an opportunity action. It's a houserule, but seems like RAI. Since the zone is only one square (correct?) then teleporting vertically would block the zone from being used on other creatures, which would actually put a pretty high opportunity cost...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

I'm interested in this too. We're about to start using this house-rule on Tuesday as part of a new campaign. Rather than use p.42, I've decided that it's an encounter power that does one of three things: 2[W] damage and a minor effect until end of your next turn (prone, slow, immobilize...

    WotBS WotBS #1 timeline (spoilers)

I'm afraid not--I don't have the original anymore. I've since made a bunch of changes specific to my campaign. (I work in Pages on a Mac, anyway.) You should be able to cut-and-paste out of the PDF, though.

    WotBS WotBS #1 timeline (spoilers)

As part of my prep for running The Scouring of Gate Pass, I put together this timeline for the adventure. I've taken a few liberties--I filled in some holes in the backstory, and I cut out the encounters I'm not going to run--but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone is interested.

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

Yes, I noticed that as well. It may not be broken, but it seems to be violating the RAI, since Aegis turning into an encounter power is one of the nerfs the Hybrid SM gets. I spend way too much rules attention on this guy. :hmm:

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

Yes, probably eladrin. He was also asking whether the swordmage Aegis of Assault mark and paladin Divine Challenge mark could be used on the same target.
