    Building a swasbuckling pirate

All ya real swashbuckers throw your hooks in the air, and wave 'em around like ya just don't care. With sword, gun fire we get what we desire; but tonight my maties get down with the ladies.

    Werewolf and regenerating severed limbs

Yeah, I think I've heard of several tales similar, where the lycanthrope was found out due to a damaged limb or a scar that matched in both forms. Fun fact: Eastern European (I think Slavic) folklore has werewolves that come back as vampires when they die. Dunno if this has ever been used in a...

    Building a swasbuckling pirate

Ranger, AGP's Skirmisher Archetype. Eschews spells for special abilities that let you do all sorts of swashbuckly things. Perfect fer a pirate, and ye don't have t' take an animal companion unless ye want to. Yar.

From 3.5 to 4e to PF, back to 4e and beyond

Yeah, I remember some heavy fudging with HP and minions to make encounters work back when I played 4e because of the grind. Then it worked so well I did it for Star Wars Saga and Pathfinder. I'll admit to bringing a bit of 4e to the table every time I DM, and I'll raid the sock drawer of any...

Is A Vampiric Dragonwere Giant A Compelling Monster?

The concept seems a little overcomplicated.

Pathfinder and 4e's love child, what I want in 5e

There is one major thing I noticed missing from this thread: How DDI's data will effect 5e. I don't expect 5e to return to be more like 3e, although it may pick up a few good pointers from Pathfinder. In fact, with the fractured market it may be best if 5e goes in a new direction, rethinking...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo's box of beasts

I'd buy it. Heck, it's what I bought Monster Vault for...

Balanced Game System: Imperative or Bugaboo

Really, the best approach is probably a shotgun approach so that there is a little bit of everything for everyone, then try to find major game-breaking elements and correct them. Despite my bashing on Star Wars Saga above, the system was fairly solid except for starships - which were decent...

Balanced Game System: Imperative or Bugaboo

The argument about balance is more about how to balance equality with options. The more options, the harder to maintain equality. And folk want different things out of the experiance. Still, beyond videogames my experiance is with D20 variants. 3e and 3.5 had trouble, but more or less worked...

Legends and Lore - Maintaining the Machine

There already is a "streamlined" version - cure wands. Multiple uses and a bit more expensive, and it helps to know how to use a magical device. Potions are for poor people. Take a modern similarity: Batteries. We can make better batteries, but better batteries have higher price points -...

    Pathfinder 1E Eberron Pathfinder

I'd maybe alter the fluff to replace the Artificer with the Alchemist completely and not worry about trying to alter things. Still, though, other than adapting the HD of the artificer (d8 instead of d6), ditching the item creation pool (not needed for Pathfinder), and limiting Metamagic Spell...

    What do you do well?

Combat. I like to have a very interactive enviroment with interesting terrain and let my players try crazy stuff. Granted, I had to clue-bat a Jedi once to try force powers on a Rancor, but my players have fun.

    RPG artist blogs and galleries

Pimpin' myself, but it's been a while since I've been able to devote time to a serious digital painting instead of cartoonish character stuff.

Buying Original Art: Where? and any tips?

Cheapo frames at Wal-mart are usually fine. They were good enough for my University's Senior Show, so they should be fine in your home. Fancy frames have a tendency to distract from the artwork. If you want something other than black and are good at spraypainting, a nice, even coat or two of...

Buying Original Art: Where? and any tips?

I do commissions. Details on my Deviantart page, and yes, I have been trying to break into the market by low-balling my prices a bit, but it comes out to about $10 an hour. I'm going to be hiking prices come the end of the month, but commission something before then and I'll lock you (or anyone...

Legends and Lore - Maintaining the Machine

Yeah, but Eberron is filled with Great Houses that enforce their monopolies on the "good stuff." Monopolies find it cheaper and easier to use thuggitry (either their own thugs or government thugs) to knock out the competition rather than by innovating. To top it off, 98% of the people in fantasy...

    Pre-rolling for players

Pre-rolling - as in rolling for your players before the session starts. It can work in narritive instances. I tried this once, and it worked out decent. I was trying something more story focused, and had set up a handful of rolls for certain checks ahead of time. It determined what each...

    Treskri - an underground world

Reminds me of Bionicle - well, once the Big Revelation finally took place. Turned out the "Known Universe" for most of Bionicle was the interal body cavities of an absurdly huge robot, with islands, seas, and even a sunken continent that ended up no longer sunken (I think - the Bionicle story is...

How much is too much (Race Bloat)

Eh, depends on what type of campaign, too - plenty of TOS episodes where the only humanoid alien in the show was Spock, and he's still half human. Many of the "nose ridge" aliens were vaguely reskinned humans, anyways.

How much is too much (Race Bloat)

Five Man Band or Power Trio (+1) works great for party set up. World building...eh... I know, I know, "every" DM wants to be Tolkien. And sometimes players want to play some rather janky things. There are times when a DM probably should say "No," like no to opening up the entire 3.0, 3.5, and...
