Is it worth buying stuff especially for 3.5 anymore?

Theres not going to be a 4.0 any time soon. It was 10+ years between 2nd ed and 3rd, 3.5 came out with a lot of fixes and works well in many cases. I can't see how they will re-design everything. There will probably be a new edition to the Core Books that update them for errata and maybe...

    Best firearms rules?

Check out the Swashbuckling Adventures firearms. they have a good selection (from muskets to pistols to rifles) with various types (double barreled, revolver etc) If you're looking for full out cannons, you'll have to go to their website for the rules on them as they forgot to put them in the...

Should the DM "kill" a character?

You're missing the issue. The orc killed the player while combat was still going on. Most PCs that I know, will wait until all of the other enemies have been killed/knocked out/fled before they go around and finish off everyone not dead.

Cleric turning out of control...undead adventures becoming impossible...

You're right in that those rules don't exist, but as I recall, the evil clerics can bolster their undead compainions. I don't know the rules because its been a while since I DMed (just starting a campaign now) but I belive that an evil cleric can bolster the undead to the point where it would...

    Player Problem, need advice

I think they mean that his last two characters have been below his usual level. I'm taking this from what DragonLancer has said. Of course its late here, and I'm tired, so I could be way off.

    Player Problem, need advice

I was hopeing to hear from someone else in this group, right now there are two points of view and some more are a help to clear things up. I've known many people who fall under the 3 complaints you have, each seperatly though. I can usually live with these people, but someone with all 3 of...

Should the DM "kill" a character?

That wasn't the scene I was refering to. I was talking in general, there are scenes where the generic bad guy hits the generic good guy when they are down (as I recall, perhaps I'll have to watch the movies again to get a specific example) In this case, maybe the orc who delivered the killing...

Should the DM "kill" a character?

I don't have a problem with an "enemy" attacking someone whos down and unconsious. In fact, I've never really viewed unconsious as being actually knocked out, but just severly wounded and you're incapacitated. Look in movies like Lord of the Rings when a guy is dieing is still awake but can't...

My Paladin killed a child molester (and now my DM wants to take away my powers!)

yes it would. There are a few things. a) It is an orc. Usually the laws of a city/country etc don't extend to marauding monsters that are found on the land. This would put the orc outside of the law. b) This depends on where the dungeon is. If its the typical cave type place outside of...

My Paladin killed a child molester (and now my DM wants to take away my powers!)

Wow, this is a big can of worms. What deity does your Paladin worship? I guess the punishment really depends on your god. Helm - being the God of Protection, you could probably argue that you were protecting the girl. Torm - you are to strive to maintain law and order, strike quickly and...

3 player party and no cleric, need advise

I've played in a few parties that have not had a cleric, and they both had 3 people. The DM was good about it. We were able to buy healing potions, and we frequently did. We also didn't have a lot of "hard" deadlines for getting things done, ie, we were able to take time to rest between...

    Player Problem, need advice

Playing a character that can do 100+ points of damage a round isn't what you want to play, or the other players. But it is what this guy wants to play. Is that so bad? Sure, you'll probably have to give some villians more hit points, or come up with a creative way of distracting likudice's...

    Player Problem, need advice

To be fair, none of us (other than DragonLance and likuidice) were there so we have no way to guess at what the context was. I'm in a game with my friends where I'm playing a Barbarian/Ranger who is a tank on combat. Especially when he is going against Favored Enemies. One of the other party...

    Artificial Limbs?

Swashbuckling Advenutres has a section on simple prothsetics, peg legs, hooks etc. Its pretty neat and fits in with that type of game. If you're looking for simple stuff like that, it'd be a good place to look to, if you're looking for full-out artificial limbs like you might see today, I...

How to stop my players from doing these things?

The Loner hero doesn't always have to be someone who doesn't have a background. If you're player is using the "my family is dead and I have no friends" to get out of creating a background then ask them a few questions. Who killed their family? What happened to these people? Having a...

What do your heroes do when they're not adventuring?

I suppose what they do depends on what type of character I play. One could be a wanderer who moves from place to place. Sometimes the journey is full of adventures where he would be out doing whatever the DM has planned. Other times, his journey is rather uneventfull and he arrives with no...

    Adventurers titles

Ahh, it all really depends on the area and the character. I recently played a Wizard who started his career as a student at the local wizard school (Lv 1 or 2) by the time the campaign ended, he was around Lv 10-11, but he was still a "student" at the school, all be it a senior student. For...

    Magic Items with problems

That is genius. I might have to borrow that idea if you don't mind. One of my bests was a cursed cloak that the evil villians (Drow) planted in the PC's party. It was a cloak of elvinkind that had the reverse effect when in total darkness (ie the Underdark) and also served as a missle...

    Mass Combat?

There was a Dragon article about an invasion published in one of the issues last summer. It may work for what you are trying to do. It suggested having the outcome of battles depend on what PCs do, either in their little side quest or their direct involvement in the battle. From the sounds of...

    Player Problem, need advice

You gotta talk to the guy first. If he still doesn't get the clue, then you can cut him loose. Others here are right when they say that he'll just drive your other players away, and from what it looks like, your other players fit your style fine. Tell him that his style isn't right for the...
