D&D General Forgotten Realms - why do you still like running games here? +

I like the maps and names of locations. Players have some ongoing familiarity so it feels more grounded. I don't follow canon or novels. It just do whatever I want with the maps and cities and terrain and gods and whatever.

    Dragonbane general thread

    Dragonbane general thread

I am itching to run Dragonbane. I bought it for Roll20 because that's my go-to system and I really like it. The rules seemed pretty well laid out and the sheets were pretty. But then I started seeing how Foundry implemented the rules, and frankly, the integration was FAR better than how Roll20...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I love alignment. If I play some game that doesn't use it I add it back in. Monster statblocks that don't have alignment annoy me. I like to know at a glance what a monster leans to. Is that weird thing LG or CE?

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

We are nearing the end of the 5e Spelljammer campaign. It's been great. No thanks to 5e's lackluster boxed set, but I added in as much as I could from 2nd edition and 3rd party supplement. Hell, I even threw in Planescape for a bit. Anyways, I have run a Spelljammer campaign to the best of...

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

No, not yet. We are trying to wrap up a 2-year 5e campaign and we are right at the cusp. I also want to run Dragonbane and Nimble and Dungeon Crawl Classics, so my fantasy game interests are spread very wide.

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

I have the three core books. This is a fantastic game. In fact, the character generation might be my favorite out of all the new games. My problem as DM is that getting my game group to switch is nigh impossible. My other alternative, since I only play online now, is to find a virtual group...

    Other D&D Variant Nimble 5e

I think we play again tonight. I want to run it myself as DM, but I want to be more familiar with the game first.

    Other D&D Variant Nimble 5e

Basic monsters are pretty simple. A skeleton has 10 hit points and does 1d4+3 with an arrow. There's nothing else there. A wraith (level 10) has about 100 hp, can fly, and can deal ranged hp damage AND inflict wounds, which is the 5e equivalent of failing your death saves. 6 wounds and you're...

Call of Cthulhu: best 'scary' one shot?

Many, many years ago I ran a Cthulhu one-shot that came out of a German magazine. It was a modern adventure, and the PCs played navy SEALS. You can read our recap here: https://jmhauser.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/project-pi.pdf If you can find the magazine, it's worth looking...

    Other D&D Variant Nimble 5e

I have played once, and next week is a second session as a player (a Cheat). I really enjoyed it. I would try to get my main group to switch from 5e to this, but that might be hard to do. Also, and this is big, there's no official VTT support, so all of those thousands of 5e monsters I have...

    Pulp Cthulhu - The Disintegrator

This was our CoC one-shot. Hope you enjoy. It was a blast to run. I will probably dip back into Pulp again one of these days. https://app.box.com/s/6zpojt26z2y7oq6oxm5f69f78e82qwzk

D&D General My experience with popular D&D VTT tools

I have used Roll20 for 5 years and love it. It usually works as needed, and the recent Jumpgate upgrade has only improved it. I have Foundry as well and have tried multiple time to teach myself how to use it, but the learning curve is significantly steeper than even Roll20.

D&D 3.x Mike Selinker about the release of 3.0 D&D

I don't remember the launch day, but I remember Dragon magazine teasing the hell out of it for a long time leading up to 3e.
