D&D 5E (2014) What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

Level Up fixed Tiny Hut to my satisfaction. It is expensive but lets you get a Long Rest, and is no longer an invincible shield. Tiny Hut 3rd-level (evocation; arcane, force, protection, utility) Classes: Bard, wizard Casting Time: 1 minute (ritual) Range: Self Area: 10-foot radius hemisphere...

D&D 5E (2014) Princes of the Apocalypse: New DM bouts about progression and late dungeons

PotA is a great adventure, but it is not good for a starting DM. It needs some work from you and online guides to bring it together. Still, if you want the challenge, study up and read walkthroughs.

D&D General "As a Player, I Alert the DM When I Notice Them Make a Mistake in the PCs Favor" (a poll)

I'm very glad when players step in and support rules, especially when they realize they can't do something they'd planned on, and I'm too busy on the DM side to even notice their mistake.

D&D 5E (2014) "As DM, I Know How All the PCs' Abilities, Spells, and Items Work" (a poll)

When they level up I go around the group and ask them what new abilities they gained, so myself and the other players are aware.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

I think if someone could resurrect this old book by William Dear, THAT would be a great movie.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

Thanks @thom_likes_gaming . As others have pointed out, the article is a summary of the book. Much of it IS factual. Some of it is undoubtedly sensationalized for fame. I don't know how to weigh it one way or another. These events happened, and they had an influence on our collective hobby for a...

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

In real world occultism, gnomes are one of many names for faeries or earth elementals. They exist in the astral, and are generally invisible except to certain clairvoyants, but even then they do not have a distinct shape, seeming to form themselves from what the clairvoyant might imagine them...

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

I'm using gnomes in my Midgard campaign as villains. These particular gnomes worshipped devil patrons and effectively became evil. They're all a little crazy and mostly warlocks.

D&D 5E (2014) Does Your DM Let Everyone Start With A Feat?

Many of them had level prerequisites, but I didn't see anything game breaking if you ignored that. I only used the resource at 1st level, they didn't gain more later.

D&D 5E (2014) Does Your DM Let Everyone Start With A Feat?

It was the Talent series by Dragonix. https://www.dmsguild.com/product/214641/Character-Options-Talents-5e

D&D 5E (2014) Does Your DM Let Everyone Start With A Feat?

Last campaign I let everyone start with a talent that was essentially a half feat from a DM Guild resource. There were lots to pick from and it gave the PCs a little more variety at 1st level.

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

I don't mind them personally, but I think the dislike is that they are too similar to halflings and dwarves. Fantasy Flight had a version of them for 3e that amped the magic aspect, which I thought worked well. It gave them a better identity.

D&D 5E (2014) Vote for Todays Best Adventures for Use in 5E

I loved Lost Mine. Mixing it with the second starter set made it even better. I found a supplement on the DMs Guild that took the rather weak Tome of Strahd from the core campaign and turned it into a time traveling device. The PCs - when they use it/solve a chapter - are transported back to...

D&D 5E (2014) Vote for Todays Best Adventures for Use in 5E

We finished. It was fantastic. Took two years on Roll20. I would run it again for a new group.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

"I think he went way overboard with all his quotation marks. After all these years, I don't know how he could remember all those conversations." The aunt said this. While reading the book, the same thought occurred to me. Dear wrote it four years after what happened. The book is FULL of...

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

What I got from the book is that Dungeons and Dragons didn't have anything to do with the boy's mental breakdown. It was the culmination of several other tragic factors, and D&D, if anything, offered escapism and relief.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

Right, it is just a summary. I had to leave out tons of stuff, like how his men combed an early GenCon searching for the kid, and all the problems Dear had with campus police. I have no idea what was real or not in the book, it was just a good story. It reads like fiction for sure. Maybe...
