Help! Wizard spellbooks and encounter spells?

I read it as: "Whenever the Wizard gains a new Daily or Utility power, he adds two Daily or Utility powers to his spell book at that level." I did not read it as: "Whenever the Wizard gains a new Daily or Daily Utility power, he adds two Daily or Daily Utility powers to his spell book at that...

    Gestalt Rules

It all depends on how long the campaign is going to progress. Many spells are self-only because they assume that the caster is a squishy robe wearer. Those same spells on a gestalt character become unbalanced very quickly. By 15th level, gestalt characters tend to be god-like, in my...

    Gestalt Rules

Unless you also design the campaign with gestalt enemies (which is an extremely painful process as the DM), I think you'll find gestalt to be massively overpowering. For example, I recently DM'ed the shackled city campaign arc with just two gestalt characters: A fighter/cleric (no...

    Tumble query

I've always allowed my players a move action tumble check to get up from being prone without an AoO. While it may not adhere to the RAW, it's such a staple of fantasy fiction and movies that not allowing it really seems to violate the feel of the game. Free action? no. Move action? Definitely.

    composite bows

Or he could simply be a 10th level expert, of which there is pretty much guaranteed to be a couple of in any large (or larger) town. Don't forget, it's not just PC classes that get skill ranks.

    composite bows

I think your players are confusing the rules for composite bows with the rules for magical enhancements. Making a masterwork composite bow that allows one's natural strength to be applied to damage is not magic. It simply requires good craftsmanship. There are no limits on such items in the...

    Combat with a Choker

Ah, for ranged attacks only. That makes sense I guess, although seems quite out of place in a game where ranged attacks into melee simply incur a -4 penalty and have no chance of hitting an ally.

    Combat with a Choker

Improved Grab just means the creature can start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. Sure, the creature can take -20 on it's grapple check to keep it's dex bonus to AC and continue to threaten and attack others, but generally a -20 means the creature isn't...

    Combat with a Choker

Maybe I'm just playing it wrong, but in my experience, grappling never works in a monsters favor. Of course, this could be because there's always a rogue in the party... But seriously, why would anything willingly put itself in a position where it is denied it's dexterity bonus to AC and...

    Quick Draw for items?

Masterwork potion belt - 10 potions, retrieving a specific potion is a free action Masterwork bandoleer - 8 items (wands, smokesticks, etc), retrieving an item is a free action (Check the Forgotten Realms campaign setting for details)

    Weapon crystals, add properties

But it's not 28,000 gold on a weapon 'just' to sneak attack undead. It's 18,000 gold on a +3 generic weapon, which can be used against anything, and 10,000 gold on being able to add undead sneaking whenever you like (as a standard action). Another X gold takes that same 18,000 gold investment...

    Weapon crystals, add properties

I've already started disallowing half of the items in the Magic Item Compendium as it is. Weapon crystals are next on my list to obliterate from my campaign. 10k to sneak attack undead? What where they thinking? "Transmuting"? Already out the window... +2 enhancement to be able to completely...

Feat suggestions for 16th level Fighter/Cleric gestalt

Ah, thanks to the Feat Index I see that it's in the Complete Adventurer, page 111. My wife says "Thank you very much!"

Feat suggestions for 16th level Fighter/Cleric gestalt

Sadly, Monkey Grip is a pre-req for "Wield Oversized Weapon" epic feat which will allow her to wield a long-sword in her offhand for free, as well as allow her to wield an over-sized longsword in her main hand. However, she did go ahead and pick up the bracers in ADDITION to Monkey Grip, since...

Feat suggestions for 16th level Fighter/Cleric gestalt

Thanks for all the input. The divine feats are definitely interesting, although her Charisma is fairly low. Here's what my wife decided to do: Respec (using PHII rules) "Combat Casting" to "Monkey Grip" and take "Two Weapon Fighting". Additionally, add "Animated" enchantment to her shield...

Feat suggestions for 16th level Fighter/Cleric gestalt

This human fighter/cleric gestalt is a single weapon (longsword) + shield build and I'm trying to pick my 16th level fighter bonus feat. So far I have: Weapon Focus (longsword) (war domain bonus feet) Spell Penetration Combat Casting Shield Specialization Divine Ward Improved Initiative Dodge...

Armor Class against CR 20+ creatures

Looking at creatures with a CR of 20+, the attack mods tend to be in the range of +36 or so. A 20th level halfling rogue in Mithril Chain shirt +5, Ring of Protection +5, Amulet of Natural Armor 5, wielding a Heavy Shield +5 and a Dex of 22 has an AC of 42. This means the creature will hit on...
