Weapons doing greater damage to Large Sized Creatures...why?

This is a dramatic oversimplification. You could easily use .22 LR to take out small game, but I wouldn't try to hunt a moose with that! Lethality is going to depend on a lot of things, including powder charge, caliber (both of which translate directly into raw force), penetration of target...

    OotS #417 is up!

I don't think castle walls are that powerful when you have spellcasters blasting them down -- sort of highly mobile artillery. 10 to 1 is a real-world figure. I would guess that the multiplier is low enough in a D&D world to be legitimately worrisome. Of course, that begs the question of why...

Ideas Needed For A Cleric Domain (My Players Out!)

Well, the obvious spell is the 3rd level bard spell, "Listening Coin." It's in Complete Adventurer and the Spell Compendium. There's also a 2nd level arcane spell called "Fool's Gold" listed in Powers of Faerun. You may want to consider the 1st level spell "Silverbeard," listed in the SC as...

    Guns, D&D, and DDM

Well, you might be able to make a campaign-specific case for it, but in most campaigns it seems like being able to use magic is about as respected as being a licensed hairdresser. Anybody with an Int, Wis, or Cha score of 11 or above could be a spellcaster. As for being the great...

    Guns, D&D, and DDM

I think it depends entirely on the setting, but there is a problem with guns in a magical setting. I was, at first, a little surprised that Eberron didn't include any gunpowder weapons. It makes sense to not have them, though. My understanding is that in the real world, early firearms were...

    Realistic Combat

A while ago, I recall reading an article about wound lethality for firearms. I'm sorry, it was long enough ago that I don't have a citation. What stuck in my mind, though, was the concept that the only way to quickly drop a target with any certainty was to hit the brain or the spine. Central...

    Fade into Violence

Does anybody here have any idea what good the "Fade into Violence" feat is supposed to do? It is on page 79 of the PH2. As far as I can tell, it lets you bluff a foe into ignoring you if a) you are empty-handed, wear light or no armor, and do not attack, and b) the foe threatens both you and...

    What have you played?

Results so far... It occurred to me that it would be worthwhile to look at the length of time the classes have been published, and compare it to the poll results so far. Of the relatively new classes (less than 12 months), the Duskblade and Beguiler from PHB2 and the Swordsage and Warblade...

    What have you played?

You're right. I haven't really read the book thoroughly yet, and I missed the fact that Dragonfire Adept was a base class.

    What have you played?

Which of these non-PHB classes have you played? NOTE: PHB2 classes are at the bottom, out of alphabetical order.

    OotS 406

Miko has become somebody who values her own view of the world over those of others, and is willing to kill somebody who a) does not detect as evil, and b) is not an immediate threat to her, and is willing to do so c) in a way that violates the law of the land, and d) is in direct contradiction...

    OotS 401

They shouldn't get any XP for Belkar. He should be included as part of Nale's challenge, just as if he summoned a monster. Never mind the resolved plot threads -- Roy is going to have to get used to a quasi-competent Elan. That's going to convince him he's in an alternate reality, if nothing...

What's the lamest monster you've seen made cool, and how?

I think it all depends on the description. Take a look at the D20 Call of Cthulu monsters. You'll be like, "What? A polar bear with too many legs?" Then go read some Lovecraft and see how amazingly scary those otherworldly things can be. What's lost for a lot of D&D is the sense of wonder...

    Sex with the DM

LOL, never done this, but if somebody wants to point me to a hot gamer chick DM in Northern Virginia, I'll be happy to do some field research and report back. It's the least I can do for ENWorld. :)

    My Beef with Social Skills

A good example of Intimidate in my mind is Joe Pesci from Goodfellas. Here you have this funny, smiling little guy. When he got angry, though, you could tell he was absolutely psycho...even his friends were afraid of him when he got that crazy glint in his eye.
