    Rulership in 3.x

The 3.0 Stronghold Builder's Guidebook is great for figuring out the constsruction costs and stats of a castle. There isn't much about rulership in there.

    Yeah. Me.

Making Ads Open in a New Tab

Can this small change to the site coding please be implemented? I'm not going to pursue an ad if it requires me to right-click and select to open in a new tab every time. Lazy, I know.

    Highest level you've played

1e: 6th 2e: 2nd 3.0: ECL 30 (that was a blast) 3.5: 1st. I mostly DM, and no one else ever has a game that gets very far. Maybe that's why I'm usually the DM. ;) 4e: Haven't played. Good read as always, Edena_of_Neith. I think 3.0 did a better job of attempting to create epic-level...

    Seven Principles of Dynamic Temples

Good read, but I see you referred to Khamanar as a "frontier town". Yet the architecture you describe seems beyond the scope of what is considered a "town" in D&D demographics (in fact, it is about as costly as a large castle from what I can estimate), as does the number of clergy and so forth...

    When will PDFs be over?

This analogy is so good I want to bear your manbabies. Why would *I* as a purchaser of electronic RPG material want any format other than PDF? I can easily (and legibly) look at two visually appealing pages at a time on my screen, easily search the document using the processing power of a...

    Random Character Generation

I concocted a set of rules related to ability score gains as PCs gain levels. These rules have the benefit of balancing PCs and NPCs out in the long run. How initial ability scores are determined depends on the needs of the campaign and the ability of the player group to handle a little...

    Seven Principles of Dynamic Temples

Good reads from you lately SHARK. It's important to note here that the temples you speak of are much grander than the typical local parish. Your average small town probably won't have one of the scope your post describes. However, any city should have at least one noteworthy temple. I think...

What Level of Detail Do You Like in Your Games?

I know what you mean... it's so rare for me to be a player that I have to savour every moment of it. That and all the creative juices I normally use as a DM have to find an outlet somewhere.

Good Clerics and "Wasted" Spell Slots

That's about what you should get from DMG demographics.

What Level of Detail Do You Like in Your Games?

As a side-effect of my obsessive-compulsiveness, I have to track every detail of every aspect of everything. As a player, I always end up in charge of keeping track of party resources, especially if a castle is involved. Even if it's someone else's PC who is in charge of financial...

Good Clerics and "Wasted" Spell Slots

If you read the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook, it does a pretty good job of explaining the use of magic in construction. Yes, having even one high-level Wizard who can cast telekinesis means a lot less work required by basic labourers. Then again, look at modern construction and farming...

How is that babe in the barely there armor getting any AC bonus?

...You totally lost me on everything before the comma. What is after the comma I agree with conditionally - I would generally rather see an attractive woman showing off her features than an attractive woman in armour that covers most or all of her body, especially to the point where you can't...

    Iterative Attacks

I've been doing something similar with firearms in my d20 Modern gaming, and bows in D&D. As a DM who uses a lot of humanoid opponents, I would love having to make less attack rolls and not having to add a different amount to each.

    DM and/or player?

Occasionally I get involved in an IRC game as a player for a few weeks, till the DM stops showing up or something just when things are getting fun. Then I end up getting begged to run a game to fill the empty time slot that was just created in everyone's schedules. So I'm a DM exclusively...

    Secret doors - how?

With Search checks, I always assumed PCs were "taking 0"; that is, their bonus to the Search skill has to meet or exceed the DC to notice something such as a secret door. The concept of "passive searches" the way 4e does it came up in our group, but it was scrapped when I pointed out that a...
