    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

Yeah, but they can attack any other monster on the field, so unless the succubus is the only opponent, that's just going to result in the PC moving away to attack other things and the succubus wasting everybody's time. At worst, in most encounters, it means people delay their actions so the one...

D&D 4E WoTC is increasing the amount of 4e info, but..

No buts here, though they need to get some information on the licensing out to us soon.

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

Now this time I'll have to agree with hong. If they're shielding the squishies and somehow also in melee with the succubus, something is seriously wrong. Maybe it'll turn out to be more useful if I ever actually run a succubus, but I'm not seeing it as a significant option right now.

So it fails the instant we roll initiative? I mean, I can buy that, it's kind of how succubi should operate, but this is D&D, man. It's gonna need sharp-sticks protection if it actually shows up in game, and need it fast.

Maybe I am. :] Seriously, I only get on 4e for being videogamey when they do stuff like reveal Normal/Elite/Exceptional Items will be in the new edition, or that you'll have to hit 10th level to get a license to wear rings. You know, when they're ripping off stuff that I thought was kind of...

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

The Succubus's Charm actually seems really weird to me. It seems better to use it on an NPC ally, who will stand next to you and tank for you. Against PCs, it just makes them move away from you if both attacks hit, dropping it to "situationally useful at best" territory. Dominating someone...

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

"Crushgrip Constrictor" and "Legion Devil Legionnaire" sure are names. War Devils having their weapon in hand be a recharge-based power sure is something, too. I'm not entirely surprised, given that they also provided us with a Mind Flayer that couldn't use its weapon in hand unless its...

The weird thing is, I'm honestly not sure from the released previews that they've made having a healbot less necessary so much as that they've made having a Cleric less necessary. It can just be a Warlord now, too. It's one of the things I'd like to see how it pans out in actual play. (And in...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

As I said earlier, it's very important to me that 4e has external licensing in some form, to the point where I'm probably not going to give a crap about the game for very long if it doesn't. WotC books, especially late in 3.5e, weren't exactly shining gems of rules quality, and they didn't (and...

I think this is a preference issue as opposed to a rationalization issue, since I'd hope the explanation you just stated is one that would immediately spring into everyone's minds once they read the mechanics. I, for one, don't have any difficulty seeing how to explain character-based limits on...

I've always believed damage is physical, but in a hilariously videogame-inspired way where the level-1 dude who's taken 5 points of damage has been run through by a shortsword and in need of medical attention, whereas the level-20 dude who's taken 5 points of damage has also been run through by...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

To be fair, though, wasn't that going to be less than a month after the Monster Manual came out at the time of the announcement?

Oh, okay, you just totally misread my first post. While my group isn't entirely a fan of non-magical instant healing (and Healing Signet in Guild Wars is magic, even if Warriors can use it - you'd have been better off just stating the amount they regen while standing back from combat for a few...

Well, we know, for a fact, that they're doing what Primal said, from previews that have been officially released. Rich Baker also says they're also not making significant changes to the pantheon. I'm not sure these two statements are compatible. At the very least, Rich Baker seems like he's...

Er... what? In Tactics Ogre, I can smash someone into the ground and heal them and I pay out of my MP pool. I can do this... forever really since TO starts you with 0 MP and has you recover it during combat. In FFT, I can smash someone into the ground and heal them and I pay out of my MP pool...

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

I've seen it in a few games, but only in plot scenes where suddenly nothing works like the actual game mechanics any more. This is probably why it's so jarring to some of us (and I'll tell you - usually I seem to be the one hating on 4e mechanics in my group, but I was surprised by the fury with...

Elminster's been rendered incapable of using magic on pain of being possessed by spirits instantly, and is thus just a useless old man. So... yes.

D&D 4E Will Kalashtar be the 4E Aasimar?

Well, yes, they could answer "how can we make a race supernaturally touched by good cool" by choosing "by making them not supernaturally touched by good". That might be satisfying to some people - heck, it might make me happy if they create a cool enough race in the bargain - but that won't be a...
