Any module/sourcebook made you go "Drop everything I want to run this right now?"

Ditto. JoAt? of "The JoAt Company, Inc." fame? Brock MacCallum

    Embracing the D&Disms

Quote: Shallown I see your point clearly. There isn't a rules reason to stop those circumstances. But the rules are a tool to me and not a perfect one. This is one of those things that it might be interesting to run a game where what you say is the absolute truth and everytone is a potential...

    Embracing the D&Disms

This was a good breakdown of the spells for how it would affect the PCs. I disagree with some points though. As a nit-pick Discern Lies is inferior to Zone of Truth in most respects. You’re missing my point though, or perhaps I completely misread your first post. As I saw it you were...

    Embracing the D&Disms

Absolutely. This kind of stuff is critical to making the PCs really feel excited about their accumulation of power. It doesn't have to wait until you get 9th level spells either. When my PC who was playing a Wizard chose Resist Energy at 4th level (just a 2nd level spell), I dropped a...

    Embracing the D&Disms

Sorry. Take your pick. I'll talk about any of them. Edit --> Just a thought; some things look innocent alone, its the combinations that are often more powerful than you'd otherwise think. Commune gets some cool info, and other spells create loads of ways to spread that info far & wide...

    Embracing the D&Disms

Careful, Quasqueton – this rabbit hole is far deeper than you imagine. Just a very few spells (and the ability to make magical items) change the fundamental aspects of how society works so completely that it doesn’t take too many high-level spellcasters to make a world completely unrecognizable...

Do Gnomes have a language of their own in Eberron?

It's worth noting that the Gnomes (as one of the four natives races) have been on Khorvaire since before humans migrated over from Sarlonna ... so it's a fair bet they weren't mute before the Common tongue. (The other three are halflings, orcs and goblinoids)

    Does Detect Evil Require Sight?

Dude, I am so playing a blind Paladin with Blindfighting and some kind of enhanced Detect Evil which allows the specific location of Evil creatures in less than 3 rounds. Not to mention the ability to say "Something lies beyond this seal. Something which should not be released."

    Is poison use evil?

Poison, like a sword, is a tool. It can be used for Good & Evil ways. That being said, there are several reasons why poison is perceived as "not as Good" as a sword. 1) Accountability. Generally speaking, it is easier to avoid the consequences of your actions if you use poison instead of...

    Let's ban Teleport!

My problem wasn't that players would use Buff-Scry-Teleport; it was that I couldn't think of any good reason why my BBEG's wouldn't. Why would the BBEG wait for the PC's to get equipped & ready? Better to hide, wait for them to go home, rest, split up around the city as they run errands -- and...

When is a Paladin better to have in a fight than a Fighter?

Hey, that's a good rule and dovetails nicely with the Paladin's Turn Undead ability - which as others have noted is nice without outshing the Cleric. It's always bothered me that a Ranger & Paladin's spells were hardly worth having by the time you got them. Kind of a faux class ability, really.

What has changed your experience with D&D - the game or you?

I have changed much more than the game has. To the extent that the rules have changed I believe that's because the game-makers have attempted to stay with their market and 'grow up' along with the rest of us. When I was 13 there wasn't a lot more to the game than killing orcs and riding...

DMs with limited time, and wasted efforts

You see to have two seperate problems. This example, and several of your others, seems to indicate that the party isn't interested in the hooks you're providing. Plot-hooks are only as good as their ability to draw PCs into an adventure. What kind of stimuli do your player's respond to? Use...

    Nightmares about Sharn

Actually, my problem with Sharn is that it just reminds me too much of home.

Need help with Eberron opening to a module...

Because this is a Con with limited (if any) contact with the other kingdoms, mentioning their names will just confuse them. If Breland comes up during the session, just say "One of the other kingdoms to the south." That said, just read them this: For a thousand years the human Kingdom of...

    Would I Recommend It?

Yes. Amazon. I really liked the WotC previews, and the threads here on the board convinced me. I'm incorporating elements into my homebrew. My wife doesn't want to go full-blown Eberron, as she's already established in the world she's in. Sadly, no. I'm currently playing in the Return to...

How do your PC's meet (in campaign)?

Character bios written before first gaming session. Bio should explain why they're the class they are, how they got their equipment (if it's anything out of the ordinary), and how they know the other PCs. For the most part the writing of bios becomes a team effort so they can mesh their...

Would somebody explain the Deathless to me?

Deathless = Ben Kenobi in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi; slightly more substantial. They are benevolent counselors who tell Luke to run when he needs to be told. Humans and Gnomes are limited to Speak with Dead to chat with the grandparents, but given the effects of Dolurh that...

Conversion of Basic D&D Module B7: Rahasia?

I'm running this quest right now, strangly enough. What's so weird about the "Black Opal Eye"? The only thing it does is complete Elyas' ancient spell which defeats the witch sisters. You don't really need rules to describe this - it's just a story element. I've looked for other conversions...

D&D with no Armour: could it work?

What kind of changes do folks think would be needed? Rogues, Rangers & Monks with their good REF saves would get quite a power boost. How do fighters make up for this? I mean, really, a Fighter should be the best at anticipating incoming blows and avoiding them. Rogues avoid combat for a...
