    D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] Best non-combat cantrips

Presty to create a focus so that I don’t have to carry one. Druidcraft to predict the weather is #2.

D&D 5E (2014) Making a spell permanent and trigger activated?

We once faced an enemy with incredible abilities. Found out later he was the recipient of a Wish spell gone right. So as a general rule, if no other explanation works, you can use Wish.

    D&D 5E (2014) Permanent True Polymorph

Agree. I’d definitely have a chat with the DM first to get a read on how doable it is. The thought of a 5th level NPC dispelling True Polymorph is way too annoying.

    D&D 5E (2014) Permanent True Polymorph

Since True Polymorph can be dispelled, I would try to do this via Wish. Hopefully, you have someone in the party capable and willing to cast it (that whole 1/3 chance thing).

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Reward Attendance and Participation?

I don’t. Imagine having friends over to watch a game or to just chill, and at the end of the evening, in front of everyone, giving the more engaging guests $20 each. If I was one of the guests, I wouldn’t come back as being a trained monkey isn’t my shtick.

D&D General Why do you play non-human races?

Elves are better than humans in every way. Slender, beautiful, graceful, perceptive. Don’t show signs of aging and live for centuries. Don’t need to sleep. Have darkvision. Why would I play an old-looking, ugly, hairy-chested, balding fat guy in a greasy wife-beater?

D&D 5E (2014) Merging the Sorcerer and Warlock

The sorcerer does nothing for his powers, unlike the warlock and the rest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodberries and Eberron

If folks see new, level 1 druids being taken as community slaves, they may decide to pursue a different career path.

    D&D 5E (2014) Guidance...

I don’t think it’s a problem. Having said that, as the party gains renown, you could impose disadvantage on social checks as others may be suspicious that the party is using magic to influence others (or they may just think it’s weird that they’re casting spells every minute). If they’re...

D&D General Are the Races of D&D races of Human or seperate Species according to lore?

2e book of elves: “The other gods saw this example and set about infusing life into their own sadly misshapen vessels, with varied results. Alas, all other races were but sad imitations of the Elves.”

    TSR Ryan Dancey: Acquiring TSR

It would be interesting to hear from the TSR side. Both on what, if anything, they think went wrong and life after Wizards took over, assuming some kept their jobs. When 4e came out and many went to Pathfinder, there was a perception that Paizo did a much better job of listening to its...

D&D 5E (2014) Persuasion - How powerful do you allow it to be?

Agree. No Persuasion checks on other PCs. (That was actually a rule in 3.5.) Up to DM if Persuasion can be used effectively in any other circumstance.

D&D 5E (2014) What spell have you never seen cast?

First thing every session: predict the weather, especially when you know it’s a dungeon crawl.

D&D 5E (2014) Proficiency vs. Ability vs. Expertise

I think in 3.5, a sorcerer could be as good as a bard or a rogue in a couple of skills. What made the latter skill monkeys was that they were also good in many other skills. The 3.5 sorcerer could be “the best” (albeit tied for the best) in his two favorite skills and take solace in that. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Conerning Gnomes (+thread. please don't crap the thread with anti-gnome negativity)

Speaking of footballs, my gnomes’ noses are smaller than footballs. See the Pathfinder gnome. Also, my forest gnomes are smaller than halflings. See 2e and 3.5.

D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell what do people think?

A tricky part is not knowing whether you should counter or not, which is usually a question of what spell is being cast. (Due to Counterspell, our table now goes with “I’m casting a spell, does anyone counter? Rather than “I cast Spell X.”) I think in Xanathar’s, they give an option to...

Things your table should do, but doesn't do- The Fun v. Efficiency Thread

Checking for traps is lame. We rarely do it. My bard will Conjure Woodland Beings for companionship if other options aren't available.
