Savage Pathfinder. It has that D&D feel, but wildly different mechanics. Haven't played it yet, but I will!

You also could do worse than getting a copy of the Neverwinter Campaign Setting. While it's for 4th edition and set about 10-15 years prior to 5E, it's one of the best setting guides for D&D period. You can easily use most of the lore, plots and adventure hooks as is. That's what I'm doing...

I just get triggered by 'it's a board game' comments. Must be PTSD from the D&D-edition wars. What you say makes sense 👍 Still wish they'd do a compiled/revised edition. I think it's hard to get into the game when rules that really improves the game and fixes things are spread over multiple books.

They really need this. I think the spread of more or less essential rules updates across various books are a big barrier to on boarding new players. I know I won't invest in 4e before there's a 4.5.

I'm not sure I see the big difference. What's challenging monster for this level vs what's a challenging CR (= monster) for this level 🤔 And what will be the result? A few pages of guidelines, or do you plan on converting all MM monsters? Not trying to be snarky, I'm just really trying to...
