    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

Pretty weird stance. They shouldn't clarify rules because everyone just makes it up anyways? Why have any rules then? Anything you'd state (not just for this, ANY rule) is going to have some contrarian thinking they'd do it differently.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Shape of "New Druid"

The current stat block for an elephant doesnt have anything in it to reflect the truck,. The overpowered damage output of the giant scorpion is precisely WHY you shouldnt have access to monster templates. Rogue on tap isnt good for balance either. Animal shifting is fine on a half caster. It...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Shape of "New Druid"

The problem is then we're balancing monsters around one class ability, which is just bad design. CR is more or less a shot in the dark anyways. By keeping them stat blocks, MM scourers will continue to look for the list of broken CR creatures then whine when they can't turn into them. The...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Shape of "New Druid"

Why the Circle of the Sea is beyond me. Land already already had a Cost terrain option, and Spores/Wildfire are much more flavorful. You'd think they'd save such a niche subclass for some kind of pirate adventure.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

Shield the piece of equipment, not the shield spell. Not sure if that's in moderately armored or whatever the cruddy medium armor proficiency is. Plus that's using your feat though, for something that at least in 5.0 was Eldritch blast but worse with extra steps.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

It would be a shame to lose Hexblade. One of the players in our current game is a Hexblade with a pact with her sword, a shard of Blackrazor. The medium armor/shield proficiency also helps you not have to max Dex. In point buy not needing more than a 14 Dex lets you grab more Con.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #3: "New Paladin"

No, damage really wasn't on the table. On top of making saves a joke to pass, Ancients gave damage resistance to spells. So it quartered damage. I just gave up on that game and told them to narrate how awesomely and easily they won.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #3: "New Paladin"

Having played with an Oath of the Ancients with a 20 cha and str at level 8, yeah, they needed to be toned down. +5 to saves makes a mockery of bounded DC's and resistance to magic damage makes 5E combat even more of a joke than it already was, The ability to go full nova on smites required...

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew druid/artificer character

Perhaps post the builds of all party members in question? I'm assuming this is a moon druid/armorer artificer? A lot of the features wouldn't synergize if you let the armor work. Multi-attack doesn't stack with extra attack, nor should it. Defensive Field doesnt stack with wild shape THP. I...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Agreed, just dripping with flavor, weirdness, and motivation to adventure.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #4: "New Barbarian"

Really good change. If the class is balanced around having rage always on, it should be really easy to have rage always on, much like sneak attack being essentially every attack. I'd wager the people preferring the weaker 2014 version don't even play the class... As usual, unless it's a spell...

Pathfinder 2E Pre-orders Open for Pathfinder Plushies from WizKids and KidRobot

Because "don't make little plastic toys" is a pretty weird thing to say to a toy company that makes little plastic toys and expect any sort of response. Look, I get it, my niece used to get those LOL surprise balls and the amount of waste in those was pretty disgusting. They can cut down on...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Counterpoint - I disagree ;) Regardless, inspiration isn't there to make villains look like inept clowns. It impacts PC made rolls. You don't get to force enemies to reroll attacks either.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Unless the warlock comes with eldritch blast and agonizing blast as default, there's more room for error with the Warlock, which presents them as equal with fire bolt and casting Bane once per long rest. Pick a crappy invocation, you're stuck with it until you level, compared to a spell that is...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Casters get the world handed to them already. A failed save has much more impact than turning a miss into a hit. Casters can already use their inspiration on spell attacks.

    D&D General The nitty gritty

We track rests, time (loosely) and encumbrance since D&D beyond already does that. I find encumbrance is essentially a non-issue since 5E is absurdly generous with carrying capacity. The only time in our current game it's ever been an issue for is for the 6 strength pixie when she was trying to...

D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Name This New Cantrip

Yeah, I allow Lesser Restoration/Paladin Lay on Hands to remove 1 level. Obviously that wouldn't work with your cantrip, which is balanced around exhaustion being literally worse than death. Expiation of Rubies or Oblation of Rubies would be my go to, with the "rubies" in question being a...

D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Name This New Cantrip

To be fair, it's easier to bring someone back from the dead than make them less tired. Actually, since being raised reduces your exhaustion level by 1, its more efficient to kill the person and Revivify than cast Greater Restoration. The official rules are so mind bogglingly stupid.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Not to mention D&DBeyond is pretty awful for using home brew material. You can't even add a class. Or invocations, or tons of other things. Man, that site sucks for anything but giving WOTC money.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

If I wanted a class that was mechanically weak and boring I'd be playing a fighter. The entire bone of contention is that the fighter sucks for me because it was designed for people who don't really care about the game mechanics!
