D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

Even if it was an attack action it still doesn't matter, barring a bunch of out of turn actions. Bosses really need multiple initiatives with two full turns.

D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

Partly luck with a paladin crit, they prepped a round and used a good chunk of consumables/resources. It was a fair win, but it shows how weak 5E creatures are against any amount of party tactics and optimization. Honorable mention to friggin silvery barbs, which I'm pretty close to banning...

D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

No one. The only sensible move is to try and escape or surrender and that action is better used to flee. They can't kill anyone, and the cleric is just going to healing word whoever they hit, so attacking is useless. Even if they could kill anyone, they die the next turn anyways. If they have...

Dragonlance Lord Soth’s stats and CR

Per usual, he has chump HP. Decent damage output at least. He's likely a one round chump against a high level party I continue unshaken in my belief that 5E's CR's were playtested against a party of 5 naked 8 Str/Dex champions dual wielding turkey drumsticks.

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

D&D hasnt been grounded for at least 3 editions. Casters have unlimited, risk free, easy to learn magic. They break reality more often than they poop. Wanting some beardy grandpa in a bathrobe doesnt reflect the current edition, worlds, etc.

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

To me, it edges closer to fantasy as opposed to "1200's Europe that is apparently unchanged by the presence of approximately 10,000 sentient species each with their own culture. And planes. And magic."

D&D 5E (2014) How game-breaking is it if GW Fighting Style applies to smites?

I think that should just be a regular maneuver anyone can do. That's pretty weak for a feat.

D&D General Is WotC's 5E D&D easy? Trust me this isn't what you think... maybe

This. As near as I can tell the monster manual was tested against a party of 5 identical 8 str/dex fighters dual wielding turkey drumsticks and wearing padded armor. The math looks incredibly off compared to the DMG monster CR suggestions. The creature design in Flee Mortals seems closer to the...

D&D General "I'm glad to be back playing D&D."

5E could do better with "combat as sport" play, with better encounter building and creatures that actually pose a threat against competently played PC's. You'd need to go beyond that as well, with the adversaries and world having resource allocation to the challenges the DM presents to keep it...

D&D General "I'm glad to be back playing D&D."

There's nothing inherently more serious about a traditional Tolkein party than one with a warforged and a tabaxi. It's how you play the character and the tone.

D&D General "I'm glad to be back playing D&D."

WHile I agree 5E is too low risk for my taste, basic door traps aren't a challenge, they're an exercise in order of operations. Unless the DM is just pulling some kind of Grimtooth adversarial BS ("you fools, you dared search for traps? you set off the tiny explosive runes only readable by those...

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

Yes, using one of their very few slots, concentration, their subclass selection and an invocation. That's a lot of cost and opportunity cost.

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

Except the feat that grants the warlock invocation of extra attack has a pre-req of "pact of the blade".

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

Absolutely disagree they arent overpowered. Sword bards in particular are egregious. Bards basically trade one feat and 1 HP per level for full casting in the levels people actually play. The base bard chassis is so much better than the base fighter it's ridiculous. If your argument is "well...

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

The scaling is very limited and low value for a fighter. A scaling Firebolt is worse than their attacks. One of the weakness of casters is lower at-will damage. This erases that. They are not really comparable at all.

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

You're giving away almost all of the fighter's special stuff with one feat. Hence my comment of "what are the appropriate prereqs for balancing a feat giving full 9 level casting". I don't think any prereqs would balance it. Three feats might be doable.

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

Same way I'd balance a feat that granted full spellcasting. I wouldn't. Are people just so allergic to the idea that a non-caster gets anything that can't be easily poached by a caster? I think you could probably make balanced at-will weapon maneuvers in the vein of weapon cantrips, to...

D&D 5E (2024) Doesn't Eldritch Knight's new War Magic seem to grant overpowered at-will damage?

Sure, why should the master of weapons get anything special when using weapons compared to a wizard. If they wanted to git gud they should have rolled one of the real classes.

D&D General Mundane animals - do you use them in game?

I was hoping for tiny masks and voice modulators. "So, you think your acorns give you power over me?"
