D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

Do you own the game? You seem really caught up on optional boobs and a crude joke here and there, when that is hardly representative of the entire story.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

It's a bugbear. The real humor is everyone else has a horrified face, except Astarion. Image below is sfw, just spoilered for size.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

You are 100% right, and I got sidetracked. Movement definitely matters more in BG due to the granularity. It also reminds me that I need to remember to use more difficult terrain.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

    1) In my experience, most people play in TOTM or use a grid. It's going to be rare that movement is that granular. 2) Rests are entirely campaign dependent though. One hour is a LONG time when you're in a dungeon/enemy territory, and meaningless when you're in a wilderness being pulled in a...

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

I've been really enjoying the changes, and will be adding some to my game, particularly the weapons to spice up combat. But something I wanted to highlight was how it basically treats class/background as a proficiency. A wizard would get their proficiency bonus to identify a wizard spell...

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

I really can't tell if this is serious or not. The idea of checking a dozen or so variables, on top of everything else going on, seems agonizing. We let the player pick for the same reason don't we check to see if the moons are in alignment or our distance from a ley line to cast a spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Would You Let a Monk Roll for Stats?

I use point buy but let you add 1 to your highest or 2 to another stat. Helps with the MAD. The problem with the monk can't be solved by rolling well on stats. It's a fundamental design issue.

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

That would be nice. Pathfinder 2E's Mountain Stance gives +4 AC among other benefits, but you don't apply your Dex to AC. A friend was playing a stronk (str monk) in our game for a while. Basically the big tough guy like Bolo Yeung. It's a shame WOTC is missing such a MA/anime archetype.

D&D 5E (2024) Oh Ye of Little FAITB

I do like the idea that alignment is something that requires an actual effort to align yourself with cosmic forces.

D&D 5E (2024) Oh Ye of Little FAITB

Far better to have a two word descriptor when people can't even agree on what Lawful means heh.

D&D 5E (2024) Does WotC view the Monk class as overtuned from their perspective?

So much this. It's like all they do is run prison break scenarios. Same with the bladelock being able to conjure a weapon. Having equipment is the default assumption, being able to operate fully in th rare situations when it isnt is not a meaningful ability!

    D&D 5E (2024) Weapon Mastery + Cunning Strike+ Battle Master

The champion should exist, just not as a fighter. Stop forcing the fighter to be the noob class, and stop forcing noobs to be fighters. There should be 4 flavors of noob class for new players, drunk old slobs, and people who don't care about learning the rules: Mage, Priest, Warrior and Expert...

D&D 5E (2024) Is there any confusion between Poison Damage and the Poisoned Condition?

Not among my long term players who are familiar w 5E's design but certainly among the two new players I have (new to both D&D and new to RPG's). Both felt it odd that a spider bite deals immediate poison damage, and just once, rather than a DOT or some debilitating thing. I've recently started...

D&D 5E (2024) Asians Represent: "Has WotC Fixed the D&D Monk?"

Making martial arts more like the real world isn't the answer though. In the real world MMA often devolves into two dudes rolling around on the ground grappling, as opposed to suplexing a train!

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

I feel bad for the character who takes the foraging skill. Like... do you even goodberry? All of the exploration ribbons that the ranger does is handwaived by magic anyways to get to the fireworks factory rather than dealing with counting sticks, bars of hard tack, etc. People like to pretend...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

LOL. Oh Hai Skill Bloat. What everyone loves, spending more character points to do the same thing as you could do before the new hyper niche skill was introduced. Lets split sneak into hide and move silently, perception into listen and spot, and athletics into swim, climb and jump while we're at...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

Fantastical vs magical is just splitting hairs in 5E. 3E had magic, supernatural, extraordinary, etc, but 5E doesnt. It has magic and a couch potato's idea of what a guy at gym can do.

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

Robin Hood is as much a ranger as Chriss Angel is a wizard. He exists in a non-magical world, so of course he doesn't have magical abilities. In D&D terms, he's a fighter or rogue. He's some former noble who lives in the woods, has a goon squad by leveraging that Diplomacy, and robs people at...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

That's a mild benefit for a few levels that then fades to no benefit at all. I don't see why they just cant add Proficiency or Wisdom modifier to Di and call it a day.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Yeah, break up the routine slightly. One of the drawbacks of 4E (which I quite liked) was that we got into a set rotation of our encounter powers, so fights felt samey in rotations. I liked the TOB's crusader semi random power generation/recovery, but that seems outside of what 5E is wiling to...
