D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

I loathe training cost rules and can all but guarantee few people other than 60+ year old DM's find it fun to throw your gold into a pit to get your next level you already earned with experience points. And I say this as a near perma DM. There's a reason they haven't been part of D&D in like 45...

D&D 5E (2024) Bladesinger, is it Green, Yellow, or Red?

Because spell slots aren't unlimited? Also it's 2 attacks, one of which is better than a regular attack. Why should the guy without fireball attack for less damage?

D&D 5E (2024) Bladesinger, is it Green, Yellow, or Red?

Why should a 9 level caster get multiattack and better than tank AC? If the AC bonus was 10+Dex+Int, MAYBE. But it stacks with Mage armor. And it's on in every real encounter of the day. Sorry monks, should have been a caster. Why do we even have noncasters at this point? Legacy reasons? They...

    Should Wizardry Require Player Intelligence?

Everyone is a magi in Ars Magica/Mage. I'm against such things in D&D because it puts even more spotlight on casters who already have more levers to drive the narrative than non-casters and makes them more of the focus than the other players.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Why should you get to be a full time gish on the will time 9 level caster chassis? Like why even have non hybrid martials if everyone just gets to use one stat for attack attack/damage, with multiattack AND getting to sub an attack for a superior blade cantrip? Getting a massive AC boost and a...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

If you run an AP, PC's go from level 1 to 12 in a like a month.

D&D 5E (2024) Help with how many attacks

Is this the worst implementation of dual wielding yet in D&D? You'd think after 50 years they'd learn how to write clear rules on one of the most common melee power fantasies.

D&D 5E (2024) Its till just me or is the 2024 MM heavily infused by more 4e influences?

In 1st/2nd edition, a 1st level wizard was a single Sleep spell on legs, after which you threw darts and hid in the corner, praying a mundane house cat didn't claw/claw/bite you to death. Cantrips alone offer a large amount of magical utility. If you asked 12 year old me for Minor Illusion at...

    D&D 5E (2024) Melee warlock build in 2024

This. Enemies aren't going to hit the pillow fisted guy covered in icy spikes compared to a squishy guy that is actively hurting them. I would buff that attack stat. Between AoA, Tough as an origin feat option, etc you can afford a lower con and actually influence the battle more than just being...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Bruce Lee doesn't exist in a world with large amounts of magic, nor do the characters he portrayed. You need some element of magic to be able to harm dragons and go toe to toe with a giant and not die. I feel they should just bite the bullet and state all PC classes are mystical, even if they...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Look, you can go to the planes before level 5, but surely not another country. Those sailing ships and mounts are only for combat! The Complete Shair'sHandbook in 2nd edition has The Mystic of Nog that might help you visualize another form of monk. They were wizards who sublimated their spells...

D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

Sure, today. At the time I was stunned at the whiners who somehow didnt realize how good it was, when the alternative was a single orc for $3-4 from reaper or GW. I have a couple 27 gallon totes filled with prepaints from those halcyon days that have met my gaming needs for 20 years now!

D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

Which were amazing. You could get most commons for 25-50 cents on ebay, large uncommons for like 2 bucks. Go look what 10 orcs and 5 ogres would cost today. Sure, there were a bunch of grandpas scared of online commerce who complained but the secondary market made it so easy to fill out...

    D&D 5E (2014) I think I prefer backgrounds in 2014

But they already let you pick whatever in Tasha's. They went backwards for no good reason!

    D&D 5E (2014) BG3 is once again a Platinium Selling Game in 2024, without selling a DLC.

If the main point of your game is PVP grabass or a resource management sim, you can get away with less advanced tech, but graphics and VA definitely matter for emotional storytelling. FAR fewer people would have connected with the characters if they looked like Bethesda's dead eyed jank or...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

Huh, I stand corrected! Good callout Maxperson! I'd been doing that for a while for certain NPC's anyways, but figured it was just my ruling.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

Except they don't have classes or levels anymore in 5E. That was a 3E thing from almost 20 years ago at this point! Look through any published adventure. NPC's have monster stat blocks and operate differently. I don't think Elminster has a published stat block, but he'd probably be an archmage...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I'd be 100% down for that, but good luck with the rest of the playerbase hah!

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

Except for the rules which players use and NPC's don't, such as classes, levels, death saves, inspiration, etc. 5E expressly acknowledges that PC's are different. Not to mention the biggest one, that NPC's largely operate by DM fiat. Unless you're making individual rolls to see if they fall in...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

The basic rules of the game inform a certain playstyle, which is heroic monster fighting action. You keep running into problems because you keep supposing a model and world that doesn't reflect the rules of the game. Or would if you actually played 5E. 5E really doesn't support everything, and...
