D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

Me, too. Can't remember the last time I awarded per-encounter XP, which is probably why I'm as confused as the OP ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

Ok, looking up the encounter rules and whatnot, I think you have it backwards. For 5 goblins, the un-adjusted encounter XP is 5x50=250. Since there are multiple monsters, you use a multiplier (in this case x2), so the adjusted XP becomes 500. You use the adjusted 500 XP, right?

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

Ah, sorry, I misread the post. I read those two backwards.

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

In the goblin example, there are 5 monsters that have a chance to hit the PCs each round, vs only 1 Githyanki. So, encounter XP is higher in the first example because there are more chances for the players to take damage. In other words: not all 700 XP encounters are the same.

D&D 5E (2014) I believe the D&D boardgames actually hinder the table top game.

Somehow we manage a weekly D&D game, full time jobs, some of us have kids, and still manage time for an occasional board game night. The closet full of board games hasn't detracted from our RPG playing or enjoyment one bit.

D&D 5E (2014) Chathus, the city at the wasteland's hollow heart

Throw in some will-o-wisps and/or banshees. Both should be immune to the medusa's gaze, so could be found in or around the ruins.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Except, as I showed in another thread, so far it's on-par with 1e AD&D/BECMI release schedule.

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

I spent *plenty* of money on AD&D and BECMI back in the day, and as I showed earlier, they had a nearly identical release schedule as we're now seeing with 5e.

More on SWORD COAST LEGENDS: Campaign Tools & Starting Races

Damn, I miss NextGen magazine. It was soooo good. They would have absolutely dug deep into game mechanics, back-end tools, etc. It got watered down when it was sold and became Next Generation magazine, but even that was better than the rest.

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

They've already started down that road with Eberron material, that will be fleshed out and improved upon with player feedback. And there's absolutely no shortage of other campaign setting material already available, particularly for FR. The nice thing about campaign setting materials is they are...

D&D 5E (2014) Running the classics in 5e - best of the best?

Once we finish up HotDQ/RoT, I'm thinking of running the original classic supermodule: G1–G3, D1–D3, and Q1

    D&D 5E (2014) Old Edition "Keepers" (Books)

Have all the 1e books, plus the Basic Set, but don't actively use them. I am, however, using a ton of campaign materials: World of Greyhawk, Flying Buffalo Citybooks (I - IV, and VI), Judges Guild City State of the Invincible Overloard, Lankhmar, and a few others. I pretty much mix and match...

Not only that, you had zero chance if you didn't pause OFTEN. Paused was pretty much the natural state of the game most of the time.

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

I'm curious: how will forming your own system solve any of the concerns listed? You said your interest is waning for the same reasons, so you're going to create your own system. Ok...but: 1) Will your new system have digital tools? I'm guessing, no. 2) I assume you'll be able to produce PDFs...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

C'mon, now. That's a whole lot of hyperbole. Converting adventure for 5e is pretty easy. You don't have to redo all the encounters from scratch. Not even close. Most monsters can be swapped with current equivalents, treasure can be easily adjusted (some earlier adventures, especially 2e, had a...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Ok, I did the BECMI and AD&D release schedule. Here's what we have so far for 5e (not counting things like minis, DM screens, etc...just books and adventure modules). 2013: Murder in Baldur's Gate Vault of the Dracolich 2014: Basic rules (both player and DM, free) Starter Set (includes Lost...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

For comparison, here's the release schedule of the original BECMI and AD&D: 1977: Basic Set (Holmes) Monster Manual 1978: Player's Handbook B1 In Search of the Unknown (Included in Basic Set, starting with 4th printing) D1 Descent Into the Depths of the Earth D2 Shrine of the Kuo-Toa D3...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Wall of books is a problem for potential customers new to the hobby, and WotC hopes to add lots of those customers.
