    Energy Immunity is the DEVIL!

I think the energy resistance issue has more to do with it being a new mechanic in 3e that they wanted to throw around everywhere. Spell Resistance has always been a little too ubiquitious. I hope they dont go too far away from monsters using the same rules as PCs, because I think its...

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

Its pretty easy to understand. Most people want all the classes to be balanced with each other in combat, and when they say combat, they mean "defeat enemies by force", not necessarily in armed combat. And it does not mean the Wizard losing his powers, or everyone else gaining similar powers...

    Energy Immunity is the DEVIL!

I disagree strongly with this. I know they claim AC is "supposed" to represent "both", but I think what is now AC should represent only things that involve getting out of the way, and things like armor that are actually supposed to reduce damage from an actual hit should be DR of some kind...

    Why is it so important?

yea thats kind of my point. I dont think we can draw a whole lot of really specific conclusions without more info on the per-encounter and at will abilities. How many you get, their nature, their possible ties to prepared spells etc.

    Swordmage Class

Well, I'm talking more about conceptual distinctness than mechanical distinctness, although the two often overlap. For instance, many consider Ranger and Paladin to be simply "implementations of a multiclass". I don't, especially in the case of the Paladin. The Paladin doesn't represent a...

Multiclassing: "Any combo, any level, always works."

I kind of doubt this, since its a big change from the current system and seems like it might be a bit hard to balance. I think the actual spellcasting element will remain much the same. The only thing that to me points in any other direction is the whole 30 levels of spells deal...but still, if...

Multiclassing: "Any combo, any level, always works."

I realize that, and agree. But I mean on a metagame level, within the books. I dont want the books to constantly talk about a Martial Striker...I want it to talk about the Rogue. I don't want to hear Divine Defender, I want to hear Paladin. I want the "power sources" and "roles" to be...

    Why is it so important?

Thats because that issue, in the end, is going to be decided by playstyle, which isn't something that can be quantified or determined based on the rules. Groups that insist on being at 100% at all times will always do the "9:00-9:15" thing. And those people probably wont see it as a problem...

    Presitge Class Theory...

It still has certain Vancian elements, but I like it for the most part. Aside from some of Monte's personal design/flavour preferences. The basic mechanics are awesome.

    Presitge Class Theory...

Monte Cook did it in Arcana Evolved.

    Why is it so important?

What level and type of resource management a person enjoys, and what they consider a high risk level or a difficult battle is in the end a matter of perception and opinion. Your not arguing the balance of these changes, your just saying you think they will rain on your particular playstyle...

    Why is it so important?

No one is going to "admit" that, because thats a matter of perception and taste, and that conclusion is only according to yours.

    Possibility- three levels of spells?

Thats a definite possibility. But I dont think they will be spells, mechanically.

    Possibility- three levels of spells?

I doubt it very seriously. They have I think as much said that there will be a spell level for every character level. Although this is something that Monte Cook said he brought up, mostly jokingly, when they were first designing 3rd edition. I think it will help them when balancing the...

    Presitge Class Theory...

Yes. In current D&D prestige classes are perhaps rather a no-brainer for most classes, but thats mostly the base classes faults. And some prestige class archtypes I wouldn't mind seeing integrated into OPTIONS for the base classes...but not like "talent trees." I dont want every wizard to have...

    Swordmage Class

I like the Mageblade a lot, in a lot of ways. However, I can personally take or leave the "bonded weapon" thing. And, the Mageblade does, to a lesser extent than many other similar classes, have the issue of being a warrior-mage class who's spells consist mainly of combat buffs, and seems to be...

    Swordmage Class

The trouble with this is, many classes that some see as existing to facilitate a cross between two other classes are in fact there own classes and there own archtype seperate from any similar to a whatever/whatever. Wether a warrior/mage base class is one such I dont know for sure, but I'd...

    Swordmage Class

The Cleric also gets good Fort and Will saves (generally the most important) far more spells per day, and gets his entire spell list as spells known. And you may find Cleric spells "non-exciting" but especially in combination with the Clerics other features, they are very powerful and...

    Energy Immunity is the DEVIL!

Personally, the only major problem I have is with the fact that at mid-high levels, save or dies (which I dont really mind in themselves) become one of the only mechanically viable offensive magical options. I dont mind creatures being totally immune to certain things, if its in line with...

    Presitge Class Theory...

I hope that they don't go this route, especially not as something built in. I would much rather they make base classes interesting enough that you might actually choose to stay with them, and leave prestige classes as they are.
