Where you at? Add yourself to the EN World map

Huh...I'm not the only one in Falls Church... But what's more surprising to me is that there is someone in Saskatoon, my old hometown. Heh.

    Canadian high school football?

I can confirm that high school football in Canada certainly exists, but at a much lower level of interest (and skill). I had a couple friends on the team, so I went to a few games. The varsity teams all played at the one high school football stadium in the city (Gordie Howe Bowl...why it's...

    favorite book of all time

Now I'm going to have to dig that out and read it again...it's probably been ten years since I read it. :)

    favorite book of all time

I have been a voracious reader since about age 5, so choosing a favorite is as difficult for me as for many of the others on this thread. I will mention a few of my favorite/most influential books, however. Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes. One of my favorite books since I got it as a birthday...

Which books bring you to tears?

That's just an all-around great book. Someday I'll make it out to Gettysburg myself...

    Next session?

What time are we starting tomorrow? Are we also going to Serenity? Is there a Dog?

    "It's just a game."

Pretty much goes for me. I voted 1, but I think that's wishful thinking on my part. I'm probably realistically at 2.5. I'm always feeling guilty about the time spent on gaming that could be more fruitfully spent on reading more professionally important stuff. Alternatively, I spend plenty of...

Which books bring you to tears?

Thirded. It's the only book that's ever made me cry.

    E-Ring is tonight

The major is SOF. They live in their own world. Seeing him try to adapt to the Washingtonian ways of the Pentagon is hilarious. The colonel is insane, though. :p My favorite part has to be the dramatic music when the JCS sign off on the mission. Ahhh, melodrama. :)

Russian, English, and Kazakh. I dunno if I'll pick up any more.

    E-Ring is tonight

I really enjoyed the show, as well. The writing was surprisingly good and the tension between the mindset of a special operative and the rest of the Pentagon bureaucracy was well played. I'm really looking forward to seeing if they can keep it up.

    Quaint/cute British place names

Awesome. Sounds like you have a great location set up there. Looks like it'll be a blast to play. :)

    Quaint/cute British place names

I've always been partial to Finchingfield. And Blagdon, though I'm not totally sure that's an actual place name. I just know my parents ended up with a wooden sign that says "Blagdon House" on it. :p Yorkshire's a classic, too, though probably too well known. X on the (river name) is...

I'll address a couple points that have been brought up here: 1) Playtesting. For the game I ran last time, I pseudo-playtested it with a similar scenario, but it wasn't as effective as I had hoped. This time I'd really like to, simply so that my first ever time running SR4 isn't at the Game...

What's the secret behind D&D's ability to sustain long term play?

I think successful long term play is more the result of quality DMing than any systemic characteristics. I've played in very successful long term Shadowrun games as well as long term D&D games. What kept us going? Interesting plot lines and good DMing. Character advancement, for me at least...

Pain? Not really, but it's something I do on a regular basis. Bring a book or something because it does take about an hour. The good thing is that getting on so early means it's not very crowded. :p

    NHL: Preseason!

Concur completely. It's something college hockey starts out doing every year, but by January, the whistles start to be put away. It's all about sustained consistency.
