Lost City of Barakus, how are you using it? *Spoilers*

You can always add lots of small hamlets and throps in between the larger towns and villages to help things 'make sense'. Pick up the original JG 'Village Book' (an inexpensive pdf) and you will have plenty of nice simple maps of villages that you can use when necessary. Also, if you're...

Is The Keep on the Borderlands a well-designed adventure module?

I think it's a great adventure. I love site-based adventures, and B2 is a fine example of that genre. As already mentioned, it is generic enough to fit into any setting. In addition, it has a lot of great 'plot hooks' for future adventures (including further investigations into the 'Cult of...

Lost City of Barakus, how are you using it? *Spoilers*

I like the solution of having one hex = 5 leagues (15 miles). (This was, I believe, Bob Bledsaw's original intention.) It makes for a far more expansive -- and 'wild' -- Wilderlands! :)

Goodman Games joins the high-priced market...

Well this looks very interesting! I'm a huge fan of Mystara, and have been thinking about using it for a future campaign. This product gives me pause a possible rival. . At the very least I will likely purchase it in order to mine it for ideas, and the sheer enjoyment of reading it. I...

Is Against the Cult of the Reptile God a well-designed adventure module?

I have very fond memories of this module, and am sometimes tempted to run it again. It surprised me as a young lad when it came out, as it involved a novel feature, namely, 'exploring' Orlane carefully (i.e. not killing everything the PCs encoutered). I think it was possibly the first module...

    Conan RPG

I feel the opposite. However Mongoose Matt has made it clear that Conan will stay d20/OGL.

    Conan RPG

I think that the 'feel' of Conan is completely inappropriate for IH. In contrast, the Conan RPG captures the 'grimness' and 'grittiness' of Howard's Hyboria quite well.

Your Favorite RPG Supplement, for any Game, Period

I'm torn between: ~ The Wilderlands of High Fantasy box set (current Necromancer Games/Judges Guild version); ~ The original Grand Duchy of Karameikos Gazetteer (for B/X/RC D&D); and ~ The Court of Ardor campaign setting (from ICE in 1982, for Rolemaster; nominally set in Middle-earth, but I...

Should Campaign Settings include a metaplot?

No, I don't like them at all. Metaplot foolishness ruined the Known World (a.k.a. Mystara). One of the great things about the Wilderlands is that it is metaplot free.

Any advice on running a low-magic-item campaign?

I ran two ‘low magic’ 3e campaigns, and both worked out quite well. However, both ended well before 10th level (I cut experience awards in half). Also, one had no ‘pure’ arcane spellcasters (only a bard and a cleric), while the other only had a sorcerer (and a multiclass rogue-cleric NPC for...

Why all players but no DMs?

I suppose that I’m 2:8 in favour of GM’ing on the Piratecate scale. Having run two 3e campaigns, I have to agree with this. It’s probably the main reason why I’m very reluctant to GM 3e ever again, and vastly prefer GMing other systems (C&C, WFRP, True20, etc.). Yeah, there are plenty of...

Why people like to play OD&D (1974)

Thanks for that link. Lots of interesting procrastination reading there.

Should WoTC Bring back Classic D&D?

Yeah, I noticed that. :\ Still, it is cool to see such fan-produced free products. 'Basic Fantasy' clearly hearkens back to the Moldvay/Cook Basic/Expert rules, whereas C&C is more 'AD&D-ish' (but less byzantine).

Should WoTC Bring back Classic D&D?

I knew about C&C and Basic Fantasy, but not Warriors and Wizards. Interesting ... :)

Should WoTC Bring back Classic D&D?

I don't understand all these worries about 'splitting the market' with multiple 'versions' of D&D. It seems to me that if group A is running a game with 'core rules only' and group B is running a game with 'core rules + every WotC supplement published', the rules being used in those two groups...

Ahhh, thank you for reminding me why I normally ignore your posts and reviews.

Should WoTC Bring back Classic D&D?

I would LOVE to see a new version of the Rules Cylcopedia or the Moldvay/Cook Basic and Expert D&D rules. But I’m 100 percent confident that it will not happen. Best to simply get by with one’s old copies or C&C. Judging by the popularity of sites like dragonsfoot.org, and the widely...

Just got Wilderlands 3.5 boxed set...

In addition to gods, races, classes, and new feats, the PG also includes more recent history. The history section in the box set ends rather abruptly, and tells the reader to go to the PG for the more recent stuff. This is the one area where the box set does refer to the PG. The PG also...

    Anyone Remember...

Very sound advice! Also, I'm pleasantly surprised at how civil the replies to the initial 'trollish' post have been. I'm not a huge fan of 3e myself -- I prefer C&C, True20, WFRP, RC D&D, HARP, etc. -- but I don't see how WotC's many 'splatbooks' are killing off the game. I don't care for...

    Anyone picked up True Sorcery?

Thanks for the overview, JohnSnow. :) I take it that the 'feel' of the magic system in True Sorcery is quite different than the one in True20? True20's system feels like a 'psionics' system, or something like it, which I guess is not surprising given that it is based on the system in GR's...
