Pirate's Guide to Freeport -- Impressions?

Yeah, it's pretty cool. The colours are a bit dark and sombre, but that suits the setting. The continent is about 2500 miles x 2500 miles. As for the world, it's potentially as large as you want it to be...

Computers beat up my role player

First, what grounds do you have for making this claim? How do you know that other people's "good old days" weren't as good as they "remember" them being? Don't project your own experiences on others. Second, you obviously failed to read my entire post. One of my main points is that people...

Computers beat up my role player

Given that the "war" is inane (is it every going to be "won"?), the need to "add scholarship" to it seems equally inane. I have to confess that years ago I participated in some battles in this "war". In retrospect, it was a massive waste of time.

Computers beat up my role player

Why is his "point" "valid"? What exactly is his point? Is it simply that the old modules had lots of loot, that players back then were 'munchkins' (or 'power gamers', or whatever), etc.? Big deal. It seems like a rather uninteresting, petty "point" to devote such energy towards, in multiple...

Pirate's Guide to Freeport -- Impressions?

Yeah, I noticed that myself, and it was enough to get be to buy it. :) I've only skimmed through it so far, but I really like what I see! I'm glad I got it. I think that I'll use it for a Rolemaster Classic game in a few months.

Pirate's Guide to Freeport -- Impressions?

Thanks for the link! Interesting stuff. I think I'll be getting this.

Pirate's Guide to Freeport -- Impressions?

Anyone who's looked at the pdf: I'd be interested in learning more about the bigger campaign setting included in the book (which covers 'the continent', the backstory regarding Yig, etc.). Thanks. :) As for being stat-free, that's a plus for me. If I get this thing, I'll probably use it with...

Computers beat up my role player

I'm impressed by all the energy being spent on this rather pointless debate. Some things never change here, it seems. :\

Pirate's Guide to Freeport -- Impressions?

So does anybody have The Pirate's Guide to Freeport (PDF) yet? If so, any impressions and/or opinions to share? Thanks! :)

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

This is a great idea! If I ever DM 3e again, I'm definitely using this system.

    The C&C poll

What I like about C&C: 1. It is very easy to prep as a GM. 2. It gets rid of some of the things that bugged me about 1e AD&D and B/RC D&D (viz. descending ACs, racial level limits, the absence of a general task resolution mechanic). 3. I can convert pre-3e A/D&D material in one second (just...

    The C&C poll

Internet polls are fundamentally unreliable (pretty much meaningless). It's naive to think that they are anything but that, or that they can be 'skewed'. Um, yeah. This comment is ... deeply ironic. :p

(Poll, please read 1st post) What does the DM have the right to restrict?

Hmmm ... this looks familiar. ;) (Argh! Back to work ...)

I'm thinking of going back to 2e!

 There are C&C classes for pretty much every AD&D class. In contrast, BFRP only has 4 classes. Yes there are differences between some C&C classes and their AD&D counterparts (e.g. C&C rangers and bards don't cast spells). But at least there are classes to work with!

Basic Fantasy RPG -- what say you?

BFRPG is based on the Moldvay Basic Set and Cook/Marsh Expert Set. There are some changes (e.g. ascending ACs), but in general it sticks with the original Basic/Expert rules somewhat closely (e.g. it keeps old fashioned saving throws, thief abilities are percentile, etc.). Turanil's overall...

    C&C : Rules changed between 1st and 2nd Printing?

No major rules changed between the two printings. There are some slight changes to the Encumbrance rules (but does anyone use them anyhow?). Beyond that, certain rules are clarified (e.g. some spell descriptions are more precise; some more examples are given for how to use the Siege sytem...

Seriously considering Castles & Crusades: How much does it differ from 3.X?

I discuss some of the main differences between C&C and other editions of D&D (including 3.x) in this review: http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/11/11008.phtml
