    True20 racial ability modifiers

Here is a nice summary of how damage works in True20 that I found on the GR boards a while back: - A character who takes a Hurt also takes a Bruised, but not vice-versa (-1 to future Toughness checks, Bruised only applies to non-lethal damage). - A character can take multiple Hurt and Bruised...

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

I have some sympathy with this view. In past games, I've often relied on simple role-playing rather than 'social skills' like diplomacy, etc. (i.e. skills where charisma is the modifier), although I've tried to take into account the PCs' skills and charisma as much as possible. I suppose if...

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

Yeah, good luck with your boycott. I'm sure its impact will be felt throughout the gaming industry real soon.

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

Sorry, but this strikes me as a rather silly overreaction, given how easy it is to simply ignore the wealth mechanic. I certainly would not consider passing over a fine system like True20 over something as trivial as this.

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

Well, different strokes and all that. It just seems a bit silly to me that people who have 'strong personalities' can alter reality in predictable, systematic ways. I guess I'm too partial to viewing magical powers as 'formulae' that enable people to altar reality, i.e. abilities that...

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

That would be a worry if I had CHA-based 'sorcerers' in my campaign. But I really loathe that class in 3e (it makes no sense, IMO), and so have no problem eliminating the concept of CHA-based casters altogether for my game. For now, I'm sticking with the idea that all adept powers are based on...

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

Yeah, I have this and agree that it's a very useful tool. Those stat-blocks are well worth the money. They made some odd choices IMO (including both an 'assassin' path and a 'rogue' path, but no 'druid' or 'monk' path). But that quibble aside, a very helpful Narrator aid!

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion, but after some reflection on the matter, I think that I'll stick with my 'one type of magic' idea. There's just 'magic', and you need Intelligence to master it (namely, learning to recite the proper words of power). I'm reluctant to use Wisdom as the stat on which...

    'D&D' with True20 -- thoughts?

I'm presently planning on using True20 for a 'D&D-ish' campaign. We've had one session so far, using some PCs that I made ahead of time, and the free 'Death in Freeport' True20 adventure available from the GR site. It went well, and I think that I really dig the system (although...

What campaign settings are in print and what is good about them?

Goodman Games' Known Realms and the Wilderlands from Necromancer/Judges Guild are the two published settings that I would recommend (though my praise for 'Known Realms' is based only on the previews offered by GG and the descriptions given by the authors over at their forum).

DCC 35!! Goodmans new campaign setting!(9/23 Update)

Average 32 module = $10 (2x10 =20). Average 120 book = $15 (2x15 =30). Colour poster map = $5 (4x5 = 20). I'm not seeing what is 'overpriced' here. I'd love for it to be less expensive, but this looks completely reasonable in the contemporary RPG market.

    True 20: using hit points?

Well, I definitely don't want to use the 3e magic system -- this is one of my main reasons for wanting to try True20. And using the generic classes from UA essentially amounts to using 3.5 rules (with some changes). If it would be that much work to use hit points for True20, then I'll simply...

DCC 35!! Goodmans new campaign setting!(9/23 Update)

The pdf sampler available at the Goodman Games website covers the 'ancient history' of the Known Realms, including the Sphinx Empire. Go here: http://www.goodman-games.com/index.php Huh? The 'history overview' sampler pdf seems to make it clear that the current era is the 'era...

DCC 35!! Goodmans new campaign setting!(9/23 Update)

No sooner had I finally decided to go with my old homebrew setting for my next game (after seriously considering the Wilderlands) than I read the 'sampler' for DCC35 from the Goodman Games' website. Now I'm tempted to reconsider! Argh.
