Retrocloning or duplicating D&D from the materials WotC is releasing under Creative Commons

Rules Compendium. All the rules, none of the content. Literally just cut pp. 38-46 and call it a day.

My thoughts on the new OGL v1.2 draft

Notably, the OGL allows for sublicensing, so deauthorization might not do jack-all if this language stands.

Retrocloning or duplicating D&D from the materials WotC is releasing under Creative Commons

Yeah - we'll see. I'm not expecting much, maybe "all previous SRDs are now covered by the same CC-BY license, except the following elements, which will be made available under the OGL at a future date" and then listing all the same kinds of things that are being excised from the 5.1 SRD. 4e...

"Future-proofing Critical Role" sounds like it might get into the OGL stuff.

Why We Should Work With WotC

Except Sal can't get anyone to staff those restaurants because nobody wants to work for them anymore.

Retrocloning or duplicating D&D from the materials WotC is releasing under Creative Commons

Yep - and this is something that likely doesn't matter to like 90% of the current player base so I doubt it's an empty promise.

Yes, and I'm opposed to that clawback - but I'd sure like 4e liberated from the awful GSL, and the various Basic variations would be fun to mess with. All the 2e Player's Options books too.

Making a game with 4e's tactical depth, that's as easy to learn as 5e, would be the holy grail of D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic chainsaw stats?

2d6 damage, doubled against undead and aberrations.

    D&D General Substituting 3Z7 for D20

Sure - I prefer the "keep X highest/lowest" version since it doesn't require different dice and doesn't break the curve, but it still has its disadvantages vs. single-die resolution.

They barely care about 5e's rule set - they're only withholding elements that would allow people to easily develop 1DD-compatible content for obvious reasons. They could put up the entirety of the rules from past editions and go "anything called out as Product Identity is a no-no" and call it a day.

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves could change D&D forever

Disney buying the IP and farming the game out to like, Asmodee or some naughty word might not be the worst outcome.
