True Strike as a Swift Action

Yep; I tried the worst example I could come up with in core :-) Note that this is the damage from the LV 1 spell; the base attack should be doing at least 50+ by itself. However, i'ts 1 attack every time the PC is willing to spend a standard action for this effect (if they're willing to shell...

    Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow ability...

I agree; I'm more referring to what you have to sacrifice to get there (like at least 2 caster levels) rather than as a tactical choice. I'd rather either: 1) Be attacking with an extra +3 to my BAB with my Composite Flaming Shocking Longbow +1 (i.e. not take the 5 levels of Wiz) OR 2) Be...

    Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow ability...

Apparently not; See my most recent post (or Hypersmurf's). Sound Burst is fine, though

I conceed the points; I missed the phrase "area spell" in the text.

    Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow ability...

Fireball already has a pretty nice range; I don't think that this ability adds much to it; in many cases, it would have been better to take an extra 2 LV of Sor/Wiz instead of 2 levels of AA for Fireball. I like the cone suggestion, though. :-)

    Is turning Important?

Turning -> Spell I agree; turning should be a spell (or group of spells). It should also be simplified.

True Strike as a Swift Action

Okay, let's stay straight core: LV 1 Wiz/LV 19 Fighter Bab: +19 Feat: Spirited Charge Weapon: lance (wielded w/ 2 hands) Max power attack: +38 * 3 = 114 points of damage. (and +1 to hit, since it's only PA: 19) Granted, there is a 5% miss chance, but there's also a 5-10% crit chance (for an...

    Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow ability...

Arcane Archer Let's see: the text from the 3.5 SRD: "When the arrow is fired, the spell’s area is centered on where the arrow lands, even if the spell could normally be centered only on the caster. This ability allows the archer to use the bow’s range rather than the spell’s range. It takes a...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Forsaker

My analysis suggests that for a front-line forsaker (the most obvious build), the optimal place to put the points in is Str. Also note that a LV 20 Barbarian will lilkely have a +5 inherent and a +6 enhancement bonus to Str (and a weapon that's a total of +10 or so). By LV 20, a...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Forsaker

My advice (we converted the class to 3.5 ourselves): 1) Change the DR to x/-. It's a bit stronger, but it's easier to track. Other options would be (oppoesed alignment) or Adamantite. 2) Extend the prestige class to take up, say, 12-13 levels. Otherwise, they get very weak at PC LV 19 or so in...

    sorcerers

Spellbooks I agree with you, although my original comment was focusing on the second and further copies, rather than the original. I'd even go further, and state that if you hinder a Wizard from getting a reasonable spell selection (say, at least 6 spells/ spell level), then a Sorcerer is more...

    sorcerers

Minor nit-pick: every Wizard I've played will often deliberately leave 1-2 slots free, to help adapt for the day (although obviously not for a particular encounter, unless known ahead of time).

    sorcerers

Sor vs Wiz Personally, I've played a Sorcerer at LV 4,8-20. I've played a Wizard at LV 8-9, alongside a sorcerer. My perception: 1) In the game where I played a Wizard, my perception was that at those levels, the Wizard was slightly weaker on average than the sorcerer. Usually, in one...

    Is turning Important?

Turn undead As noted above, if the campaign is undead-heavy, it's more valuable. Also, I note that it's more valuable at low levels than high- at low levels, undead's HD tend to be closer to yours. At higher LV, many undead you'll face will have many more HD than yours. If you spend a feat or...

Replacement: Settings that made a difference.

Eberron Actually, I'm puzzled why Eberron has so many votes; I'd think that Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk are both much more influential, having been published for far longer. Perhaps it's just because it is the newest major campaign setting by WOTC? If you voted for Eberron, why do you feel...

    Help with Designing a Monk

Vow of poverty is a way to keep a monk's AC relevant (is it well-balanced - probably not), among other things. Bascially, you're using it to substitute for all magic items. Eventually, with all the magic items possible stacked up, it's possible to get a decent AC on a monk, but frankly, if...

    Help with Designing a Monk

Vow of Poverty is awesome for a monk, but note that some of the bonus feats from it (that are useful for a monk) are Charisma-based. It's from the WOTC good counterpart to the Book of Vile Darkness (Sorry, I'm not recalling the name).

Using Magic Item Pricing Rules - Boots of Freedom

I have no problems with multiple CLs for effects on an item. In games that I permit psionics, I'd have no problems with a psionics/magic item, although I might require a PC to bargain with two different sellers for it.

Using Magic Item Pricing Rules - Boots of Freedom

    1) 9(CL) * 5(SL) * 400(1/day use)*2(x/day) = 54,000 I'm not certain where you're getting 32,500 from. Prehaps you're missing that the Augementation effectively increases the SL by 2? (see the XPH - djores as an example) If you care, it's "Dimension Slide" not Dimensional Slide" 2) I agree. 3)...

    PHB Cleric = Unbalanced?

Cleric power A few comments, having played and DMed a total of roughly 7 3.x clerics, spanning all levels up through about 21: 1) At LV 1, clerics are very strong. Good spellcasting + good combat ability + 2 domain abilities is very good. In one of the games I played in (up through LV 3), the...
