D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Maybe so but then it would be a matter of subjective opinion based on the group playing and that would of course be true for any kind of campaign. My personal, subjective opinion is that a sandbox (pre-written in this case and written well at that) is easy to run to the GM. As for the players I...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

That was maybe a joke. A more serious answer would be that I consider sandbox campaigns to be about processes. It´s about time- and record keeping. It´s about events following their own timelines that characters might stumble over. It´s about random encounters in a setting prepared just enough...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Perhaps WotC didn´t feel sandboxes needed much describing thinking it´s the easiest campaign form of all. I mean, it´s just plopping the characters down in a setting and telling them: "Do whatever you want. This is your sandbox." Then one player goes, "Sandbox? But how many PHBs did WotC sell...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Coming in at page 172 of a discussion about character death and finding people talking about the British prime minister is almost surreal. As for my answer to the OP I feel a character should die (in 5E) any time they reach 0 hp and fail three death saves. How often this happens would entirely...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

This thread was about WotC and 5e though. And isn’t it great people are more informed today?

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I agree with the general sentiment but feel that excluding dissenting elements from discussions would only create an echo chamber. Perhaps you should go to the OSR or Pathfinder boards and argue over how crappy those games are. I’m sure those who do want to discuss other games would love to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Sure, people have been arguing rules minutiae since forever. Those, however, aren’t the reasons being listed in this thread as reasons to leave 5e behind.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

This argument doesn´t hold water since WotC isn´t known for angering people when they try new things and take risks. If anything people seem more upset with them being to safe and only extend themselves when it comes to milking more money out of their audience. On the other hand there are a lot...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Yes, the list would be very long. However depending on how you choose to interact with modern society some companies might be near unavoidable. Other times its much easier to "vote with your wallet" as they say. Well I´m very sad to hear that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

The whole "their gonna pirate the books via video" seems like nonsense to me. Who would take the time for such a poor quality product? Also the rules will be released for free via SRD anyway so why bother?

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Lots of people understand how corporations work. Not everyone find it acceptable.

I don´t think anyone can judge what is or isn´t major problems for other people.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Well Hasbro/WotC both design and publish the game so I think they are the main thing that impact my feelings towards D&D (at least the 5e stuff). Then of course the fanbase and general D&D community affect me somewhat.

[possibly controversial]What is wrong with Vampire the Masquerade 5E?

Well Renegade Games did send C&D to creators for using the word "renegade". Doesn't make them nazis but everyone gets to draw their own lines in the sand and it helps to be informed.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

I would like to add the Flind to the sicussion about Gnolls. Perhaps they could be used as an alternative? Don´t know it they are represented in 5e.

What TTRPG Is Perfect and Complete In One Volume?

Honestly when I started playing setting wasn't even a thing at first. The genre of fantasy was setting enough. My group even made a name for that kind of world when we played D&D 3.5. We called it Generelicum.

Pace of Play, Engagement and "Excitement"

I don't think slow combat should be a problem at all as long as everyone likes the game they're playing. Boardgames can be slow as well and have long turns but still be considered classics even though talk about downtime in boardgames also tend to show up from time to time. Another thing about...

    Did the nerds win?

Yeah, it's fairly obvious the nerds won this thread if nothing else.
