Forgot that you might need an intimidate check. I got a 20! 20 + 8 = 28. Man, the www.irony.com dice server is hot tonight! :)

Deep Water and Shoals - A Swashbuckling Campaign

Vemuz hisses forcefully, but quietly: "Quiet you, or I slit your throat! How many of you?" Vemuz grabs him by the collar to provide a nice counter-pressure to the axe blade pressing against his throat on the other side of his neck.

hide: 18 + 2 = 20 move silently: 16 + 2 = 18 lucky rolls! Vemuz creeps forward, in an unusually stealthy manner for such a large man. As he tries to close the distance he watches for the bow to raise and aim. If it does, he will charge and grapple. Otherwise, he will continue with plan #3.

Deep Water and Shoals - A Swashbuckling Campaign

Vemuz creeps forward with axe in hand. 1. If the elf threatens to fire, and he is close enough, he will charge and grapple the elf to the ground. 2. If the elf threatens to fire, and he is not close enough to charge, he will throw his axe. 3. Preferably, if he can get close enough he'll...

Deep Water and Shoals - A Swashbuckling Campaign

Vemuz searches a broad ring around the scene of the battle, a throwing axe in hand, but he seems too distracted to pay close attention to the ground around him, his focus stolen by the shadows all around as he watches for enemies (search check for the ground 6 + 2 = 8, spot for enemies (in case...

Attn: Possible Virus Warning - People On Yahoo Mail?

Forgot to mention that you did the right thing. Never open stuff sent to you via email attachment unless you know exactly what it is (viruses can disguise themselves as coming from your friends so knowing who it's from is not enough). Yahoo mail won't send out information like that, ever...

W32.Mimail.A. It's hitting really hard right now and is not specific to Yahoo mail.

    Experience Point Costs

I agree with Psion. Using an ECL or class based system allows you to still gauge CR effectively. Perhaps, for example, you could keep track of their pre-spending XP total so you can know their effective level for CR/EL/XP-per-encounter calculations. So if they have 3200 XP total and have...

    AU - first impressions?

Is that kind of strange for one of the authors of the 3e DMG to go back to the 1e/2e tradition of assigning different XP charts for different classes depending on how powerful they are? Also, I assume this means that it's OGC and not d20, right? I think the magister sounds cool, but there...

[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

My English Prof. at Pomona College, Dick Barnes (rest his soul), could do that too. I'd love to see a film of Beowulf done in the original language with subtitles. It's a dream of mine. :) The self-selected subject of the oral examination for my graduation was all about sci-fi, fantasy, and...

    Kingdoms of Kalamar

I think could potentially be a great setting for bards, depending on how your DM runs it, since there is a lot of emphasis on politics in the setting book, and that is where the bard class really shines.

Deep Water and Shoals - A Swashbuckling Campaign

The oars cutting through the water sound, in Vemuz' ears, like the wild beating of the drums during his youth, the water rushing under the bow of the boat like the roar of a great celebration bonfire. The buzzing of cicadas from the shore brings back to him his earliest primal memories of...

    pirate/swashbuckling material for a campaign?

I also recommend Swashbuckling Adventures. If anyone in your group knows a lot about sailing though, you might also want to get Broadsides! by Living Imagination for the naval rules. It's the only naval supplement so far that handles ships in a realistic manner.

Deep Water and Shoals - A Swashbuckling Campaign

Vemuz points out Malthas to the rest of the crew. "Malthas starboard." He calls out the orders to row, establishing a nice steady rhythm as he turns the tiller, setting a bearing for the dock. When they pull alongside where Malthas is standing, he throws a rope to Malthas so he can pull the...

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

Another factor is that rulers likely would not want so much power available to the general populace. Everyone having wizard abilities would be a massive, threat to the status quo, as well as the security of the populace.

Book of Erotic Fantasy previewed at GenCon

Hey, sorry about the "dumb" comment. That was rather rude of me and I apologize if I offended anyone. In any case, I try not to buy clothing with conspicuous logos on it and never wear clothing with blantant ads (like half the stuff at Old Navy).

Book of Erotic Fantasy previewed at GenCon

Why would someone pay $10 for an advertisement for a book? Oh well, sex sells I suppose but it sounds pretty dumb to me. From the description I've now heard, the book certainly doesn't sound like it will be as tame as Gwendolyn Kestrel tried to make it sound during the post-spin damage...
