Races With Wisdom Bonus And No LA - Possible?

A bonus to CON and penalty to something else (a la gnomes) works ok if you allow the aging rules. CON is the most important stat to many casters after their prime requisite, and +2 can offset the pain of starting at a more advanced age.

Races With Wisdom Bonus And No LA - Possible?

Why not use a LA+0 variant off of lizard folk? Or even just use Lizard Folk. LA isn't nearly as bad for NPCs as it is for PCs. For example, a Lizardfolk Warrior 2/Druid 2 is only CR 4. And he has 2 racial HD, 2 Warrior HD, and 2 Druid HD. If they are middle aged, then they get a handy +1 to...

    Large Crocodile

Can you not use it to offset the penalty to your effective level for having a bigger critter? Or is it like Practiced Spellcaster, intended for multiclass characters?

    Large Crocodile

I would prefer to avoid that sort of situation as there will be nearly a dozen lizardman groups in the area. I plan on stocking each with a low-level croc rider. That's why I'd like to be able to make it work, mechanically, with a level 1 druid (preferably a level 2 warrior!). I think it...

    Large Crocodile

Hello, I'm looking for stats on a crocodile, size large. Unfortunately there seems to be little to fill the gap between the standard CR2 medium sized critter and the CR4 huge sized critter. I'd ideally like something that could be enticed with Wild Cohort or by a druid for purposes as a...

Craft - Modifying weapons for size

It doesn't seem like there is any way to do it, then... Basically, I've got a goblin archer NPC villain with a nice magic bow coming up soon, and I was wondering if there was any chance for the party's archer (a human) to be able to make use of his bow. It sounds like if he wants to use it...

Craft - Modifying weapons for size

How difficult would it be to resize a Small Composite Strength Longbow (as for use by a goblin or gnome) to be a Medium Shortbow (as for use by a human)?

Simple question about the Use Magic Device skill

You should also be able to increase your check pretty easily. A guidance spell, Eagle's Splendor spell, or skill shards should all help. A +2 bonus means you succeed on DC20 from 16+, which basically halves your chance of a "1."

Harpoon: delusions of grandeur or DM nightmare

I'd suggest a quick house rule -- change the Reflex save DC to 10 + 1/2 Char Level + STR mod. That will keep the saves more reasonable, in line with spells. It will also allow the weapon to scale with the wielder's experience so that it remains useful in the hands of an expert user. I'm not...

    Healer Rogues (or Roguish Healers)

If the issue is simple HP healing, there are many ways around that: Wands of CLW (750 GP for 50 charges, easily affordable by a level 2 party if they pool funds) Healing Belt (up to 6d8/day for 750 GP) Wands of Lesser Vigor (even more efficient than a CLW wand, but non-core and not on as many...

    Items for the melee mage...

Here's a few things to Consider. Your Party Roles: Tanks - TWF Fighter, Dragon Shaman, Cleric Ranged Direct Damage (Artillery) - Warlock Face - Warlock or Cleric (I Hope!) Trap Monkey - Nonexistent Full Spellcaster: Cleric Where do you fit into the party role? With +2 LA, you will NOT be a...

    Items for the melee mage...

What are your barred schools as a specialist wizard? Current ability scores/feats/wealth at hand would be helpful as well. The other composition of your party is also handy -- what role will you be filling? Thanks!

    Healer Rogues (or Roguish Healers)

Rogue 1/Cloistered Cleric X (USe the ABle Learner feat if available; otherwise just buy search and disable device cross class). The Trickery domain adds several roguish skills. You're just like a rogue, except better at... well, everything. If you don't like turn undead, consider the Church...

Three Dragon Ante and other games

I imagine several skills could be useful: Bluff vs. Sense Motive (to try to bluff the others) Sleight of Hand vs. Spot (to cheat) Profession (Gambler) -- I might allow such a check untrained at a -2 penalty The Complex Skill checks section in UA might be worthwhile to represent a game with...

    Blind characters and talking dogs!

Alternatively, a familiar with the Improved Familiar feat could get you a smart dog that can speak to you. Stick with spells that don't require visual targeting -- you can probably get away with many buffs and conjurations and utility spells. Also, you can pinpoint the location of a target...

    The iconic elven warrior/mage

Why bother diluting either your already glacial duskblade spell progression or your superawesome wizard progression? How is spontaneously casting a true strike and a blade of blood in any way worth giving up a level or two of wizard spellcasting progression? Just be a wizard or a duskblade...

    UA's Generic Classes rules

I always find it easier to add stuff into a campaign than to take goodies away. I also use the PHBII retraining rules so if I do decide to add something in, players can make minor tweaks to qualify for it if needed.

    UA's Generic Classes rules

They require a DM with sound judgement who knows when to say, "No," as well as players who are flexible. If you know that your players will whine and complain if you nerf something due to it overshadowing others, then you'll need to be more cautious and restrictive from the get go. As players...

NPC Healing - cost per point

The cheapest out of combat healing is usually wands of lesser vigor. They heal 11 HP/charge, at a cost of 15 GP/charge. So that's about 1.36 GP/HP healed. A first level cleric could use such a wand easily.
