    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

No, no. GW is FAR more insidious. If you are playing Warhammer 6th Edition, you cannot use your 5th Edition figures in a sanctioned GW event even if they are the correct troop type! Also if your figure is wielding a sword and shield, you cannot say 'he actually has two swords'. You must...

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

The point being that errors are one thing, broken rules are another. If three years from now, when several hundred thousand gamers have begun to break things in 3.5 and major rules/items/spells are uncovered that totally wreck the game balance, 4.0 comes out, and it appears to be an...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Cool. Well, thanks to everyone who took the time to vote and to post their comments. I think this the most informative of the (few) threads that I've started :)

    I like D&D

I had stopped playing for a few years, and invited my wife to join me when I decided to get back into the game. We got back in just in time for 3e's release. I am continually thankful that I invited her. She's into the hobby now too, doesn't give me flak over buying a new book, and we are...

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

Really, considering the amount of Errata scattered through the various magazines, online sources, etc, how is someone supposed to determine when the revision is 'necessary'? If you printed all of the Errata that's out right now, it's probably over 50 pages as it is. I'm looking forward to 3.5...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Another question, if I may pose it: For those of you who do Mini and Non-mini combats, how do they play out in terms of speed of play? Do the minis help or hinder?

Maps, Miniatures, Computers,... How do you play?

We have a rather elaborate set-up, thanks to a woodworkingly-inclined player. our game area is a desk (for the DM) and a couple of couches around a 4' x 8' table. The table sits fairly low on fold-out banquet table legs, and is a sheet of MDF, covered with a set of printed grid sheets, and...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Up to 55% who use Minis all the time. I neglected the users who use tape measures/rulers/string and non-gridded combat maps or terrain. I still consider that 'using Minis' since it is a physical representation of characters for the adjucating of rules and ranges.

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

Fair enough :) I guess I'm just sick of people railing against something I find fairly uneventful. I'll buy 3.5. I'd have paid $60 US for a reprinting of the first three books with all the errata. I guess I'm in the minority. p.s. For clarity, I like all the changes except the Paladin Mount.

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

So basically, as I said, it's a successful product. :) I guess I just can't understand the furor that arises from this. 3.0 splatbooks and third party books are going to be highly, if not completely, compatible. NPCs might change according to the new rules, but if your prime villian is a...

    Iron DM: format and philosophy

If I may interject again, I would say this is a bit of a negative. When I found out that my first round match in my first Iron DM Tourney was against the reigning champion, it was not encouraging. This might make the competition feel alittle more 'closed'.

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

I have trouble with this theory, simply because they are also taking a very big risk. If 3.5 bombs, then what? Printing costs are up front. Development costs are up front. Design costs are up front. They could lose their shirts if no one wanted this product. If they make money on it, so be...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Time to go from the poll to the flame war ;) Okay, so far we have had a pretty good response to the Poll. I know it's a small sampling, and not statistically accurate by any means, but look at the results! Fully half of us use Minis or something similar all the time. Another quarter use...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Re: What Minitures ???? I'm not trying to be negative or anything here, but how can this possible work given the issue of spell radius and ranges? I just don't see anyone propertly adjucating whether a pack of four orcs are all 'within 15 feet of each other' without putting down on paper at...

    [Poll] Who DOESN'T use minis?

Fair enough. I think saying 'Minis' may have been misleading. Let's be more accurate and say 'any character/NPC representation on a grid or hex map for the purpose of applying rules and calculating ranges'. Basically, do you treat combats as a tactical tabletop game? I guess I like minis and...
