    What was CAR WARS?

I have the old version of the game, the one that came in the little flat plastic boxes (like Ogre and GEV did), and it is a lot of (grotesquely amoral) fun.

Put yourself in a bucket, for great justice!

Tactician/Storyteller, with most of the tactics going into the storytelling. For instance, right now I'm playing a cleric of Moradin who's running an ever more elaborated disinformation campaign so we can legitimately run around pissing off every demon, criminal conspiracy, and dwarven extremist...

    [Dragon] #305 Contents

All I can really tell you about the novella is that it's about 21 pages long. While I'm tempted to look at it, all I've read by Martin so far is Fevre Dream and "The Way of Cross and Dragon", and I'm reluctant to jump ahead to the fourth volume of a series I plan to read at some point. I like...

Dragon #305 Am I just getting old?

Actually, the ad in question is one of the few cases where the woman (or demoness...or something) is interacting realistically with her low-cut costume.

I really enjoyed the yuan-ti article. I've no idea how new any of it might be, but it's eight pages of very atmospheric and detailed info which does a nice job bringing out how their minds and society work, and how to use them in the game. It's actually a little irritating that I can't go and...

And in #306... Devils, Demons, and Daemons, by Mike Mearls. "Six in fire burned, six by reason spurned, and six from dust returned: Eighteen new evil outsiders invade your game." Action Adventures, by J.D. Wiker. "Swinging from chandeliers, prying open doors, and throwing horses; 'Action...

I get mine through a subscription, though I usually receive it earlier than a lot of others on the boards.

    [Dragon] #305 Contents

I've posted the details from the 3.5 update in this thread. Urban Heroes: Characters Ready for the Dangers of the City, by Stan! A very general look at adventurers spending time in cities, with a particular focus on suitable employment. Four new feats give social, economic, and terrain...

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

Thank you. Now that Buffy is over (we only have a secondary UPN affiliate here), I'm going at it in earnest.

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

We got the mail just before I had to leave for a dinner party, but I'm working on it. I'm liking the issue a lot.

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

Skip Williams, as quoted on the Scooperama page: "Because it's really not necessary. Of course, it also really hasn’t been removed, either. There are still plenty of times when you can only do a single action, and those are still there. If you've seen Wheel of Time, Start Wars, or d20 Modern...

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

No, I just seem to be on the early end of the subscription mailings. I don't know whether it's because I'm in the first four letters of the alphabet and it gets sent sent out first or because I'm in the capital of a central and lightly populated state so it moves through the postal service a...

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

The tactics are entirely consistent with what you see in the combat section of the current MM, just put in a particular order with contingencies. And yes, they do start with mind blast. Stark specifically mentions a note someone sent him complaining that the Mind Flayer's CR was to high ("They...

    [3.5] Dragon #305 "Revision 3.5 Update"

This issue's preview focuses on combat, and quite a bit of this has come out already. It's written by Ed Stark, who warns that anything in the previews might be "slightly modified to completely revised" before the books come out -- though he doesn't expect a lot of that to happen. PH: "Now, we...

    Stats for a Military Fork?

For the Military Spork, I'd suggest combining the Military Fork and the Bohemian Ear-Spoon (Partizan). Going by GGWB again, I'd use the stats above but eliminate its reach and give it +1 to AC against melee weapons when taking a full round action to fight defensively.

    Stats for a Military Fork?

Gary Gygax's World Builder has these stats for "Fork, military (bident)": Large, 20 gp, 1d10 damage, critical x3, range increment 10 ft., weight 7 lbs, piercing. Double damage if set against charging opponents. 10 ft. long or longer, can't be used against adjacent opponents. Edit: The points...

[D20 Modern] Anyone using it for a not-so Modern game?

If you're not already aware of it, you might want to check out the Septentrionalis campaign setting, though it's set in a 17th century North America. http://www.catspawcomics.com/sept/sept.html

    Longest campaign you've run/played in?

I'm in a campaign that's been running since May of 1983, though I've only been in it since '88. Sessions have been fairly irregular for a while now, but close to weekly until around '90, when the DM got married. A little less than two years of game time have passed (it once took a year and...
