Congratulations! (Ponders whether the psionics poll is in any way related...) Hopefully we'll see the other two finalists' settings in some form or another.

    [OT] Naming a child Arwen

I've just recalled that when Ahmet Zappa was younger, he got tired of people calling him "Ahmet Vomit," so he changed his name. To Rick. He reconsidered.

    [OT-humor] Bilbo Baggins Music Video!

Does anyone know where this is from? I'm thinking it was the Nancy Sinatra's Silmarillion on Ice tv special, but I'm not sure. By the way, Col Pladoh posted this link that you might also find amusing in the Worldbuilder thread: http://home.online.no/~gremmem/engrish_ttt_captions/

    Space Shuttle Columbia lost?

CNN had been showing clips of the launch where what appeared to be some of the foam insulation fell off and hit the (IIRC) leading edge of the wing. They didn't think it was a problem, but engineers started focusing on it after the breakup simply because they had nothing else. Could the damage...

    Space Shuttle Columbia lost?

It pretty clearly went to pieces [edit: over North-Central Texas, during descent], but it's not clear what happened yet. They're warning people in East Texas not to go near any debris. I believe Columbia was the oldest of the shuttle fleet.

    [OT] Naming a child Arwen

Yes, it is, pronounced the way I read it as when I was 10 (Allisha). If it was a boy, it would have been Ben or Benjamin. If it had been twins...we'd have had to come up with something else, obviously. (As we would have if Silver Surfer would have been the boy's name.) My wife agreed to the...

    The Sigil

PDF publishers are quite good about this; Phillip J. Reed, Silverthorne Games, Ambient, Malhavok, and I believe a few others have gotten their customers at times quite significantly updated versions of their products.

Does your Spouse/Significant other game with you?

My wife and I were (and still are) players in one game since well before we started dating, and I play in the campaign she started a couple years after we were married. It helps that our gaming group is entirely a subset of the people we'd be spending time with anyway. I'm not sure how many more...

    [OT] Naming a child Arwen

My wife worked with someone named Arwen, who was quite happy with her name. Of course, she was in her 20s by the time the movies came out, so that might change the dynamic somewhat. I named my daughter after a Fantastic Four supporting character, but worried because it was shared by recently...

    (3.5E) Aw, crap...

It's not the miniatures I mind so much as the horrible grid movement. If the rules were based around using rulers and pieces of string, that would be fine -- not something I'd want to use on every occassion, but I could see it adding something in some situations. But when I'm thinking in terms...

IS Gary Gygax's World Builder Hardcover any good?

There's a DM I've been playing with for 15 years now, and I can say with pretty good authority that this book will be incredibly useful for him. He doesn't have a great deal of historic or technical knowledge, and since a lot of what goes on in his games is off the top of his head, it's not...

Green Ronin announces Testament Campaign Setting

However, certain modern translations are under copyright, so the usual restrictions are in effect if you quote from them directly. Thanks to Green Ronin for taking a chance with this; it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Did you use minis and grids pre-D&D3?

This depends on who you're playing with. We've had a house rule for 20 years that fireballs expand in flight, only reaching their full size and damage when they reach the designated point, doing less if they hit something beforehand. All the variables are handled in the DM's head -- he rolls...
