    Kobold Skirmisher

Out of curiosity, davethegame, will you be posting these stats anywhere where we can look at them? If you already have, could you or someone else post a link to them? I definitely am curious to see how different monsters look under 4E rules. With Regards, Flynn

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

While I use minis and a mat a lot in my home games, I have run a demo of Savage Worlds without minis, as well as played in one under the same conditions. The rules work just as well without them in my experience, but like always, I prefer to use the minis because it helps the players visualize...

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

Session Notes - 02/27/08 Good Morning, All: Another week has passed, and I've had another session in my first Savage Worlds campaign. Everyone showed up Wednesday night, and we had a good time, although the players took the game in a direction I wasn't quite expecting. However, I was able to...

    Kobold Skirmisher

Just mark the minis with a poker chip underneath or a glass bead next to them or something, and you'll be able to see the wounded you are creating as you wade through the battlefield... except that the monsters are just as powerful as you are. ;) Hasta, Flynn

    Live Blog from D&D Experience

Thanks, Mike, for doing such a great job of posting details for us and keeping us informed. If you make it to Gen Con, look me up and I'll buy you a beer (or if beer isn't your thing, how about a coke or something?) This has been fantastic. Looking Forward To Tomorrow, Flynn

Healing Surges: 6 + Constitution modifier

If you look at the two character sheets that have been posted from the 4E scenarios at D&D Experience, it appears that the Healing Surge HPs Healed is a half of the Bloodied score in each case (or a quarter of the total HP). This is in keeping with the Star Wars Saga Edition for Second Wind, as...

    Live Blog from D&D Experience

A character sheet has been posted. It appears that HP healed per surge is half the bloodied result (or a quarter of the total HP of the character), as it is different from the Healing Surges Per Day number. Hope This Helps, Flynn

Healing Surges: 6 + Constitution modifier

My initial reaction was much like the OP's position: Healing Surges refers to a game mechanic term in 4E, and for the rogue, any Healing Surge restores 6 plus Con modifier (Stat Mod plus Half Level). It was just my gut reaction when I read it. I think Healing Surges are triggered by a number of...

    Is 3x D&D a rules-heavy system? Is that a good/bad thing?

When I reached the point that I no longer enjoyed 3E because of the level of prep necessary to run a quality game, I found that 3E fell into the "Rules-Heavy" category for me. YMMV. With Regards, Flynn

Pirates of the Spanish Main Role Playing Game

Savage Worlds, the game mechanics behind Pirates of the Spanish Main, is great for kids. I'm cutting my son's teeth on it right now, and there are several people over on the Pinnacle boards that speak regularly about the campaigns their kids are in, or the games they are running for the kids at...

    How do you do NPCs?

I do voices myself. I like them, and they aren't so intolerable that the players stop me from doing so. I try to remain as consistent as possible, so that the players can tell who's talking. I think it adds a bit to the game, and allows the PCs to develop relationships with the NPCs. Giving them...

How many classes do you prefer in a RPG?

Fantasy Concepts, my Saga-inspired Fantasy Campaign Resource, has six classes: Aristocrat, Expert, Mystic, Outsider, Scholar, Warrior. The various talents for each allow you to approximate almost all of the standard character class concepts. With Regards, Flynn

How many classes do you prefer in a RPG?

I'm a big fan of skill-defined characters, as is possible through Traveller and Savage Worlds. I answered the above question, however, on the assumption that the RPG had to be class-based, considering that it asks for the number of classes. In the D20 arena, I'm a fan of D20 Modern and Grim...

Do We Need A Bard Class?

If you take all the powers that a bard gets, strip off the musical aspect and look at the game effects alone, you pretty much have the foundation for a leader with moderate arcane abilities. Game mechanically, we shouldn't need a Bard, per se. An arcane leader or a multi-classed leader/arcanist...

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

That probably depends on the OGL declarations. What is considered Open Game Content? With Regards, Flynn

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

First, thank you for the compliment. I greatly appreciate feedback. That's what keeps me writing everything up, to tell the truth. You're right. For some reason, I capped it in my head at +3. Not without the "No Mercy" Edge anyway... ;) Yeah, combining Wild Attack with Called Shots is the...

Which is your favorite Adventure Path?

My favorite Adventure Path, by far, has to be Bad Axe Games' Slavelords of Cydonia. Designed for Grim Tales, but playable with either D20 Modern or D20 Fantasy, it's a fantastic jaunt into a planetary romance campaign. The book covers adventures from 1st level to 20th, all flowing in one lengthy...

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

Session Notes - 02/20/08 Good Morning, All: Last night's session concluded another adventure, and the town of Newport was saved! Yay! Four out of the five members of the gaming group were able to make it (the last suffering a work-related issue), and a friend of mine joined in for a guest shot...
