The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

I think the OP is overestimating the importance of that second +2 ability score bump, and underestimating the importance of the many other benefits of the human. Most classes have a single prime ability score. Fighters, for example, rely almost completely on Strength. The other ability scores...

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

That's some pretty specific info there, on the high level powers. Isn't that level of specificity against this board's rules? I mean, answering general questions is great, but posting copy-pastes from the rulebook seems wrong.

D&D 4E What are you planning for your first 4E character?

Dragonborn Warlord (charisma build), with a reach weapon Halfling Paladin (charisma build), with sword & board Dwarf Cleric (wisdom build), with 2-handed maul Human Ranger (strength build), spending feats to get up to plate armor

Will the 4e forum be merged with the General one?

Haha, I was *just* about to ask this in the 4E forum. Even had the New Post window open. I think it'd be great if, in time, the 4E forum just got merged into the general discussion forum. But not right away. With a new release, people will want to discuss (in a focused way) just this new...

    Rules Assimilation

I'd focus on the core, and just plan on looking up fiddly bits like the difference between "stunned" and "dazed". If I were you, I'd focus on rules for: 1. Action types: Free, Immediate (Interrupt/Reaction), Minor Action, Move Action, Attack Action 2. Movement types: Move, Shift, Push/Pull...

What will you/do you use for marks?

We use poker chips for action points. My group plays a bit of poker, so the feeling of tossing in a chip when things are tense is quite natural. :) And it's fun to have the DM pass out chips after every couple of encounters.

What will you/do you use for marks?

For fighters, at least, all "mark" means is "who did I attack last round?" Remembering this bit of info is pretty easy. :) I don't see a need for fussing with physical counters or whatnot. Especially since 4E has so much movement--seems likely that counters would get moved around or...

    Some crunch from Rich Baker

I like Turn Undead in 4e. Clerics channel power from the gods (astral beings), and so are able to tap into astral power (radiant energy) to damage undead. Makes sense to me. It seems like undead in 4E are to some extent souls that didn't pass on into the astral. They're abominations in the eyes...

James Wyatt hints at 5 new races in PHB2

I like the idea of basing speculation on what power sources will be introduced in PHB 2. I saw "primal" and "psionic" mentioned above. So how about: Dryad Gith Goliath Half-something. Not orc; I think they said they're shying away from the whole "implied rape" thing. Shifter Shifter used to...

    Why rename HP & Saves?

The mechanics *do* work out exactly the same. But that's a feature, not a bug. :) What we gain is that Hit Points are no longer part of the game. That entire resource is simply gone. It's no longer possible to ask "what are hit points?" because hit points no longer exist as a game element...

D&D 4E 4e Multiclassing and Characters from Fiction

Good calls, Atlatl Jones! Dies the Fire (speculative fiction series where gunpowder and electricity suddenly stop working, and SCA folks and other archaic hobbyists take over): Mike Havel: Warlord, lightly multiclassed with Ranger Juniper Mackenzie: Warlord, with ritual casting feat and skill...

    D&D 4E 4e Round Flowchart or Checklist

If your players are young, I recommend keeping track of ongoing damage and saves yourself. Explain the round like this: "On your turn, you can move, attack, and take a minor action." Once everyone nods their heads at that, then get into: "If you want to, you can give up your attack and take...

    Why rename HP & Saves?

"taking damag" vs. "losing HP" Given that the game uses the term "damage" whenever an attack lands, I think the rename should be "Damage Threshold". Instead of having a HP total that's reduced by damage, the paradigm is that you start with 0 damage and accumulate damage as you're hit. Surges...

D&D 4E 4E: What 3.x problem did it fix for you?

Maybe this? Attack vs. fortitude, on hit: turn to stone (ongoing 15 damage and stunned and immobilized (save ends both)), on miss: slowed. If creature dies while immobilized, creature's body remains a statue permanently.

    What's your back-up game?

World of Warcraft. It's the game all my friends play, on any given night at least some of them will be on, and I get to kill monsters and take stuff. For getting together in person, I'd guess we'd Star Wars Saga Edition, or play board games like Betrayal, Descent, Arkham Horror, and Puerto...

D&D 4E 4E: What 3.x problem did it fix for you?

Here's my short list of improvements over 3e. Of course, until June 6 we won't know if 4E actually delivers on these improvements. 1. Ditching stat boost magic items/putting more emphasis on the character, less emphasis on his gear. D&D shouldn't be about "phat lewts". 2. Ditching that...

D&D 4E How would 4E improve my game?

4E's general design philosophy is more in line with a fast and loose playstyle, at least compared to 3.X. For example, right there in the rules it says that powers that key off of eliminating or hitting an opponent require that the opponent is a credible threat. There's no "bag of rats" BS in...

    Neceros' Landscape Character Record Sheet

I suggest leaving space to write in a character's powers. Not the full descriptions--that's for power cards. I'm just talking about a place to track the choice you make at each level. You can figure out how much space you'll need by looking at the chart in this preview...

    Neceros' Landscape Character Record Sheet

Haha--the landscape sheet was, to me, one of the biggest scoops of GAMA. I was hoping you'd whip something up. :) I'd love to see a version that included space for at-will powers. Actually, make it three slots. Two for your at-will powers, and one slot for your racial power.
