    Mini Trading Central

I'd use something like this. I've got about 60 minis waiting to be painted (many still in the blister pack), so I'm looking for the new mini game to fill a big time void in my life. Now, if the game is actually good, I'll have even less time. Arrgghhh.

    Spell of retrieval?

Isn't that going to be in Valterra's new book?

    Supplies for a New DM

If you elevate it oh, 4-6", then there's enough room to put things underneath but it is still low enough to roll the dice on the mat. In thinking about this, I don't think I'll make a platform for my large mat, which takes the whole width of the table, but it should work find for the medium...

    Supplies for a New DM

That's a great idea. Allows the players (and the DM) to keep stuff on the table, but you're not constantly asking people to move their stuff when you have to draw on the mat. I think I'm going to have to build me a little battlemat platform. Thanks for the tip!

    Supplies for a New DM

We use a battlemat religiously. Though you have to be careful your players don't turn the game into a "chess match". I also use note cards for nearly everything. As for the DM screen, I go back and forth between using it and not. Sometimes I like having it there, other times I like having an...

[OT] My wife is the greatest

Very cool KtT. Congratulations on 7 years and on having such a thoughtful (and understanding) wife. :)

    Player props and play aids

Throw a little clip art on there (I have no artisitic talent whatsover) and you've got some real play aids. I've got cards with 50 sets of "[ ]" for use on wands, and have weapon/armor/misc. item cards that have descriptions of the items on the front (working on getting them to print right on...

    Player props and play aids

I'm a big fan of index cards in the game. I use them as a player for my spells (made some for my wife as well). As a GM, I love them for initiative/character tracking. I also have a big box of index cards with monster stats on them. Much better than opening up the MM (or other relevant...

Which of the 3.5 books are you going to buy (very soon)?

All three on pre-order. I'll likely convert my campaign to 3.5 shortly after reviewing. I think that another campaign that I play in will be converting by the end of the summer. Then we just need to figure out when Living Greyhawk is converting. My 3e Player's Handbook was starting to get...

What's the strangest house rule you've ever heard of?

As the GM, I have quite a bit of leeway on how I interpret the character's actions. If something is obviously deadly (or potentially very deadly with no way to retreive the body), I tend to work around killing the character. I admit that it won't work for every group, nor am I suggesting that...

Need help DMing my s.o. (take pity on me!)

There's a d20 version of CoC. That's what I use for my monthly game. As for D&D settings, there was a company that was trying to make a go at one-on-one adventures. I bought one of them. Not bad. Let me see if I can find it.... Hold on..... Ahh, here it is. Wyvern's Claw Design. Just...

What's the strangest house rule you've ever heard of?

It has worked out real well so far. I get so frustrated sometimes that I've (intentionally) removed myself from the "Call"-ing though. There are times that I'm bouncing in my chair, thinking "I can't believe he/she just said that. Won't anybody Call him/her on that!". It has led to some...

What's the strangest house rule you've ever heard of?

In my game we've got the "Call" rule. If a player says something out of character, or joking around, another player (but not me as the GM) can say "Call" and then that player's character does that thing. Each player gets one "Call" per gaming session. For example: GM: "You walk into the...

    Creating a Homegrown Campaign World

DOH! :p I looked through a couple of pages here of recent threads, and didn't see this on. I specifically didn't want to have a situation like this. Must have missed it. Thanks. --Sam

    Creating a Homegrown Campaign World

Don't know if I'm finally making it into the realms of "experienced" GM, or if I've just lost my mind . Either way, I've decided that I want to create my own homegrown campaign setting. I've got a group that currently plays in a Greyhawk-based game, and we have a ton of fun there. I'm...

Will you be gaming in 20 years?

As someone who took a near 20 year break (took finding the gold box 3E adventure game in the WotC store at the mall to get me back into gaming), I don't see myself stopping. I regret all the years that have passed that I could have been gaming. I've gotten my kids into the hobby. They like...

    Retail Gaming Store Economics [LONG]

Rob, wow! Thanks for taking the time with so much great info! It answers the questions that have been bouncing around in my head. Already ordered. Heard about it on the RPG.net boards. Haven't gotten it yet, but I'm anxiously awaiting it. Well, since you offered, I'm going to take you up...

    Retail Gaming Store Economics [LONG]

Re: Re: Beginning Inventory? Saw that on the GAMA website. The only problem is you have to be a member of GAMA and already have a retail gaming store to qualify! I've sent an email asking if there's any other assistance/information that they can offer, but haven't heard anything. That was...
