    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

That Alsoaligns with my experience while running games that use a pointbuy type advancement rather than levels. Both game types will be similar with one shots & other short lived campaigns but levels bring something magic.

D&D General Just sweeping dirty dishes under the rug: D&D, Sexism, and the '70s

While I agree that there is a difference, neither of them is bad when it happens. These discussions seem to exist in this weird & evershifting state of smeared time, where stuff from anywhere between the very first bits of tsr's line art up to an "always will be" point in the future as fair game...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

Umm...... Noooooot entirely.... The monk is a special case because it's a fish so far out of water that it should have died long before reaching the shores of Greythawk & Toril. Coleville did a great video recently (which I can't find) about how PCs need to fit the game they are being played in...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

That almost certainly goes back to the source material genre monks are pulled from. Doing that would charge into demonic cultivator territory. https://www.reddit.com/r/noveltranslations/s/rY2wXCvu3j Unfortunately monk is in a really awkward place because it gets so many of the non demonic...

D&D General Just sweeping dirty dishes under the rug: D&D, Sexism, and the '70s

I don't have the 77 mm to scan through but it's probably not a bad idea to look for entries like raksasha lizardman and similar. I did find It's a fairly safe bet that almost any bit of artwork of those two (and a sizable chunk of friends) were thought about more than once by the younger...

The innocence in that bold bit is so sheltered it's adorable. 1 2... Just from those two links at the top of a google search you've got a list so long that I quit copying & erased it when the count was quite a bit over 20 for terms generally used positively to describe people they are attracted...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

While I agree, I don't think that it's worth pretending that this is an every day occurrence

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

Going to quote the d&D memes thread & a great video on those two, but don't forget the wackamole healing thread/poll either. 5e itself actively designs against those things to such a degree that people make jokes about it. Those design choices ultimately undercut any playstyle that depends on...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I think that really only works if you limit the "variety of playstyles" to ones not well supported by earlier editions. If the playstyle depends on meaningful grid based combat, the risk of death & attrition in combat, or the unknowns that could be lurking in the dark then 5e is pretty actively...

D&D 5E (2024) Should Bounded Accuracy apply to skill checks? Thoughts on an old Alexandrian article

I don't disagree entirely, but how you define that bold bit is critical. If you define it as anything but something along the lines of "almost anything potentially under the umbrella of the relevant skill" then sure... I guess. But I don't think that it should be so broadly defined and that...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I tend to agree with this... I've gone through several posts in the discussion multiple times, and I'm finding it difficult to pinpoint what the "obvious dog whistle" actually refers to. I suspect it might be "everyone's second favorite," but I'm struggling to even guess what it could be...

D&D 5E (2024) Should Bounded Accuracy apply to skill checks? Thoughts on an old Alexandrian article

Provided that we view posts 222 223 225-227 & 228 in order as part of a discussion instead of completely disconnected statements with no relation, yes, it appears to be the root point of disagreement, that's why I noted it in 232. Where do you see the root of disagreement if not there?

D&D 5E (2024) Should Bounded Accuracy apply to skill checks? Thoughts on an old Alexandrian article

The skill system obsoleting itself early into the game doesn't seem to be in dispute. It sounds more like you simply reject the idea that a game world could contain advanced highly skilled professionals other than the PCs or that those advanced individuals could have skills that run counter to...

D&D 5E (2024) Should Bounded Accuracy apply to skill checks? Thoughts on an old Alexandrian article

I don't think that has anything to do with my post & the worldbuilding implications of a skill system that self obsoletes less than halfway through the power curve
