    Gaming Cruise

I can't help thinking that for the 'typical' role-player, gaming on a luxury liner in beautiful scenery is kind of wasted. I mean, what would most of us do? That's right, shut ourselves away in darkened rooms, and conjure vistas in our minds more grand than anything out of the porthole!

    Why Do You Game?

Well, I suppose I am pretty much a mix of Method Actor and Storyteller, though when playing D&D I add in liberal doses of Buttkicker since it's fun in D&D! :) But the real reason I game is to make the strange dreams go away! Seriously, I find that if I don't game for a week or so my dreams...

What other adjectives would make good basis for templates?

Ahh, but Kodam, we know that wherever there's a Balanced monster, within mintutes there's a Broken one and a Nerfed one too! ;) I wonder if you can have a Broken Nerfed Balanced Gribbly of Doom?

What kind of familiar for a warforged wizard or sorcerer?

Anything other than a male dog! It would be hell having to train it not to take a leak on its master! ;)

    AD&D1 Combat rounds - time

Well, I counted time passing in 1 minute rounds. But the way I described the action it would have made much more sense in a 6 second round!

What style of ranger-fu do you use?

Interestingly, part of the divide in combat styles seems to be a matter of how the ranger is envisioned. If he's a hunter, then Archery style makes sense. If he's a a guerilla fighter then Two-Weapon Fighting seems reasonable.

What style of ranger-fu do you use?

I play a Ranger in a fairly low-magic setting, where the PCs are engaged in a long journey through harsh and lonely mountains seeking aid for their home town. He's a two-weapon wielder not through choice but because, by the time I got to creating my character, other niches had been filled. Out...

Making the Dodge feat +1 AC vs. any/all?

One option I have tried out was making Dodge +1 against all melee opponents, but not against ranged attacks. That way, you trim out a little power in return for making it easy to apply to most combat situations.

Wizard Prestige Classes & Spell Acquisition

Stepping quickly past the trite "what your DM says is obviously going to be right in his campaign", I think you have the right of the matter in the sense of the intended meaning of the rules. However, I don't hold out much hope of you reversing that position since he rejects the FAQ. In which...

How do characters *gain* new classes? (In-game logic)

Just adding a small point regarding multi-classing and needing to be above 1st level: I, as DM, treat classes as the building blocks of characters. As such, I am quite happy for a player to come to me with a 1st level character and say something like: "My broad character idea is a thief with...

    Unusual Bard Trainers

A Bard with a Familiar? Whatever next! Actually, I like the image too. If nothing else it's likely that folks would read their relationship all wrong.

What other adjectives would make good basis for templates?

I am suprised that no-one yet has offered NERFED as an option! I mean, it crops up all the time, so why not make it official.

Familiars much cooler than I ever realized!

Unless you create a specialist 'Familiarist' PrC just to let someone get more mileage from their familiar, and to play catch-up on those lost levels of development!

    Unusual Bard Trainers

Forgive me Targeteron, since this doesn't tally with your idea, but I just wanted to put the thought down: As I read this thread I was thinking, what is noted for its musical talent. And it crossed my mind that few sing so beautifully as a songbird. And in D&D a songbird can be a polymorphed...

    How big is your world?

Well, generally, when wanting to refer to 'mainland Britain' it's Great Britain. In strictness no sea islands at all, but in practise it covers the coastal islands like Anglesey (North Wales). So when we refer to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland it's pretty clear what is...

Gnomes and their role in your game

In one of my homebrews, Gnomes have no place having gone extinct about a thousand years earlier. In my newest setting, I have very specifically made the Gnomes a race of dwarves that reject the subterranean life and live on the surfacem preferring wooded hills. Thematically, they are the...

Have the PCs in your party seen each other naked?

Well put, Dr S! In a similar vein, I have read stuff concerning sleeping attire. Very few could afford to buy clothes specificcally for sleeping in, and at the same time you couldn't afford to sleep in daywear lest it wear out too fast. So most would sleep naked under the covers, and rely on the...

DM'ing for 1 Player, Need Advice

I had a nice long reply to this question, when my PC went kaput! Suffice to say, my main point was that any fight where there is only a single PC can go awry - and quickly. Good rolls on the monster's part - or bad rolls on the player's - can turn around a fight that the PC should win and put...
