Eberron = power creep or just pushing the envelope?

They're advanced Golems, for Pete's sake! What else would you expect? Actually, I suspect that over time we'll find a range of 'problems' cropping up which only affect the Warforged - basically to reinject the same problems that they are currently immune to. Specific attacks that 'damage' them...

    Eberron: Buying?

Dammit! Robbert has undermined our plan to see if we could keep Hand of Evil spinning along with his 'Warforged should take damage from rust monsters!' spiel. ;)

When The BBEG is a Wuss

The Jester is right that there are more kinds of 'power' for a BBEG than merely PC combat-prowess. And Felon is right that it can be hard to get PCs to respect that power when the BBEG has seriously ticked them off a few times! Great wealth, strong social position or potent social connections...

Do your PCs lead a charmed life?

I've been thinking about this point recently myself. I tend to see the classic D&D model of PCs is that they are essentially unique within the world. The PCs deal with the situations that crop up because no-one else can! Note that this doesn't necessarily mean that the PCs are inherently more...

    Paladins and Self Preservation

Quite, Taneel. We are not told exactly why the Paladin has the immunity to fear, but it seems reasonable to posit that it relates to having to fight in a world of supernatural evil, where enemies can freeze the blood by their mere presence (cf. dragons). The Paladin at least is not forced to...

FR? Looking for a magic weapon

Well, a regular wake always goes down well. In D&D the deceased can even join in! :D

FR? Looking for a magic weapon

Coincientally I was just reading the Arms and Equipment Guide. It's the Axe of pairs, a +2 handaxe, that when wielded in the offhand, the wielder gets an extra offhand attack at -5 off his worst offhand attack bonus.

    Paladins and Self Preservation

I hate to point out here that we are talking of a role-playing adventure game, not a wargame! I know you are correct about the pattern of warfare, but PCs don't generally engage in War, they are adventurers, Paladins included. Telling a PC Paladin that his Code forbids him to retreat is...

    Paladins and Self Preservation

My word - what short lives those Paladins would have! In any game there is going to be a situation sometime when the PCs must retreat. A deception makes them attack when they are outmatched. A few unlucky rolls and a fight becomes unwinnable. Unexpected reinforcements arrive by some means. In...

    Domain Granted Powers

Thanks to everyone who thought this though for me! :) Yes, I agree that allowing the caster level boosts to apply to whatever spells meet the criteria is the simplest and most straightforward way of handling it.

    Domain Granted Powers

This is a slightly odd question that's cropped up in preparation for a new campaign. It related to the effects of a Domain Granted Power. Let's imagine I am a Cleric 1 / Bard 1 / Druid 1 (why is another question!). As a Cleric I have the Healing Domain, so I cast healing spells at +1 caster...

ECL/LA just not working out for me

dcollins, that's good to know, as Lizardfolk are going to be really important in my next campaign. Of course, PCs get a monster class (not the one from Dragon). And I created a feat to help Lizardfolk Druids catch up with their non-Lizardfolk brethren.

Which was your favorite setting from TSR/WotC?

Of the list, I think I have to vote for the original, grey box, Forgotten Realms. That was the first product where I went through thinking 'I can do an adventure here... and here... and...' And Waterdeep saw plenty of use as a city in various homebrews. However, as an inveterate homebrewer, I...

    D&D 3.x Is farming still a Profession in 3.5 ?

I confess that these weird arguments were why I ditched separate 'Craft' and 'Profession' skills, and lumped them altogether in 'Artisan', which was special in that you applied whichever was best of Intelligence or Wisdom as modifier. That way I've avoided arguments. Heck I've even seen someone...

How much of your character's life do you actually play out in game?

For myself, it's really a function of the numbers of players in the campaign. The more people, the more that time not directly related to the adventure is glossed over. At one extreme, I run a solo game where I have plenty of time (it's basically run on a holiday). There the single PC details...

Hit points: High side, average, straight roll, what?

Yup, that captures it really well, takyris! :D I've seen a Fighter go from effective to weak over two levels with just bad hit-point rolls. It's hard to recast yourself from the role of the frontline party tank to somthing else in that same time.

Dragon #321 contents and Dungeon #113 preview

I may well be being stupid here (it happens all too often!) but wasn't this issue supposed to include the half-elemental monster classes? I was actually really looking forward to that for a friend's campaign.

    Eberron - Cool or Drool?

On that last point, Bryon, surely that's a function of the DM's decision of how important he wants to make warforges in his campaign, and on how the group regards the PCs as being typical or atypical for the setting? From what we've seen and heard so far, I think that the Warforged's niche is...

    Psicrystal Containment & Psionic Meditation

It's logical, though rather potent. Then again, that's feats spent just on focus that could've been spent elsewhere. Need to think some more on it for my own campaign.

I'll met you at the gate in an hour?

I must admit I tend to let it go so long as characters don't try and get time too precise. Meeting up in three-and-a-half hours is fine. Saying we'll launch the attack from different starting points in exactly twenty-one minutes is really a matter of guesswork for the two groups unless they take...
