New Excerpts - Tome of Battle & Dragons of Faerun

From level 2 onwards, a Warblade knows more manoeuvres than he can have prepared at once. He expends a prepared manoeuvre when he uses it. To make it available again in combat he expends the Swift action and makes an attack (or Swift action plus a do-nothing Standard action). But the ones that...

How does one address a baron?

I think that's why - when in doubt - "My Lord" serves very well (as well as "Sire" for kings). Assume that if it's really important someone will correct you. As an aside, generally distinguish between Knights (and later Squires), who are Gentry, and Nobility. Whilst a noble can be knighted, his...

    Warforged question

That wouldn't be unreasonable. At the same time perhaps increase the DCs for Warforged to influence someone through Diplomacy by 2? Lacking the ability to emote they find it harder to offer an appropriate response during negotiation. Just an idea...

    Warforged question

I assume that a general Warforged is not capable of any significant facial expression. However, do not forget that a great deal can be read into body posture, and that they can generally express. To round it out, for my own Eberron game, I also have the colour of Warforged eyes changing...

    Monster Manual IV thoughts?

And note I said "creatures". Levelled, templated and otherwise modified creatures remain creatures. :p

    Monster Manual IV thoughts?

This is my point. Pre-3e any changes meant a new monster. That's what's got us into this rut that if it isn't totally new it isn't worthy of being in a Monster Manual. But really all a Monster Manual is is a book compiling creatures for PCs to be challenged by. And under 3e that can be done by...

    Monster Manual IV thoughts?

To me Monster Manual IV is the first Monster manual to grow up and adapt the format to the 3rd edition rules. Time was when you needed a different challenge you created a new monster. That created the format for the MMs past... Now we have templates, classes, advancement and stat modification...

conducting a paternity test in D&D

Best solution: wish! "I wish this were not my child!" Expensive, yes. But he'll save money in the long run! ;)

    D&D 4E 4E requisites

All I can say is I hope to god that Lanefan never has any say over the direction of a putative 4e. Add in all those changes and I'd be waving bye-bye to D&D again for another 10 years or so! :)

    Conanesque flavor?

And don't forget that characters should lose their clothes to battles pretty often, and bestride the land in bloodstained loincloths!

    The Shadowcaster -weak?

Woohoo! I understood the mind of a games designer! Should I worry now? :heh:

    A few Ebberon related questions

Well, going through: 1. Wands are neither Arcane nor Divine; they just are. Anyone with the spell on their list can use a Wand, regardless of how that spell is on their list. 2. Yes, it can. Why shouldn't it? The only stipulation is a spell that's level 4 or less. 3. No, infusions are...

    The Shadowcaster -weak?

I think I understand the logic of this change. Under the original rules, you had to complete Paths to get greater powers, and so there was a strong incentive to do so. The Bonus Feats were a counterweight that gives you an incentive to spread your choices around and widen rather than deepen your...

    have players submit plot hooks?

I confess that I do do this, and have never found it a problem. So long as players understand that they are only OOC throwing out ideas, it doesn't create expectations that are a problem. And my experience has also been that players will come up with many many more ideas than we could ever use...

    Non-Core Class Survivor: Round 9

Leave my Artificer alone! Theoretical abuses aren't expressed in real games you know!

    have players submit plot hooks?

I can second Danny's idea. One of the D&D games I am involved in, a homebrew, is based in a large city with very divided leadership. Every few sessions he produces a physical copy of the local gossip sheet. And w sit around reading it before the game kicks off. He definitely listens to our...

[Eberron] Tiamat vs. the Draconic Prophesy?

I see what you mean. I guess in this case "oppose" means taking a contrarian position, trying to spoil the positions taken by other dragons (not that they don't do that anyway). Of course, amusingly that might mean the Spawn siding with the PCs sometimes! :)

    Non-Core Class Survivor: Round 8

I'd love to understand the hate-on for the Artificer. Having seen them in play they work rather nicely, and have a niche of their own. Is their vote really a reflection of the anti-Eberron crowd?

And we're going to get there how?

I can't help thinking that as DMs we sometimes create rods to beat our own backs! We create problems that we struggle to resolve because we refuse to 'subvert' setting for adventure. In this case there might have been a very strong reason for the tower to be 1400 miles away. But equally perhaps...
