    [Eberron] Make My McGuffin

It was designed to negate Karrnath's great advantage - legions of utterly loyal and intelligent Undead. The device is supposed to seize control of all undead within a region and transfer control to the operator. Of course, after all the damage, and the perversion of the device by the kobolds'...

settings, support and your buying dollar!

I think my position is essentially the same as Psion's - I don't generally run anything other than homebrew, but by god, Sir, I like using stuff from other people's work!

I am looking for... a plan of a medieval mine

Those shots of the tunnels of the Rammelsberg mine are rather nice - useful for DMs wanting to show what tunnels might be like. And as has been mentioned, Jurgen, old mines are essentially horizontal, dug striaight into the side of a hill, following an outcropping of ore. I grew up in a village...

    Divine Trickster

Rich Burlew (of Order of the Stick fame) created one, called a Divine Trickster. This might be acceptable.

Best Eberron novel to start with?

Yes, indeed, Keith Baker's own City of Towers captures the feel of Eberron and the nature of the Eberron campaign really well. Then again, he did create the setting so he has an edge! :)

    Eberron novels?

Having read all three of the novels now out, I must say that City of Towers is by far the best read. I would like my players to all read it before playing Eberron! (Unless, that is, I want to steal parts of the plot! :) ) I congratulate Keith in managing to get over both the appearance and the...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 DR Question

Bearing in mind that you decide what the effects look like, have you considered giving the monster Rgeneration x or Fast healing x instead. This often seems, from the point of view of the players to be similar to X/something. If you are feeling really nasty, then make it both DR and Fast healing.

    Mundane Treasure Items

Something I have used to good effect is collectables, i.e. items that are worth more to a specific collector than its intrinsic value would indicate. For example, pottery figurines, medals, ancient armour, certain coins, etc. I allow the PCs to just sell them as usual, but they can get a better...

    Rust monster versus Warforged

I think that if you want to make the fear of Rust Monsters greater, then it's not unreasonable to increase the damage (and perhaps apply save penalties) for those Warforged with Adamantine and Mithral Body feats. If you really want to represent the danger as extreme, I agree that destroying the...

    Rust monster versus Warforged

The thing is he isn't a man made of metal - it's a construct which includes metal in it structure. It also includes wood and leather, and I suspect various alchemical substances too. Don't forget that no other PC has to fear Rust Monsters as killers, so the 2d6 damage seems reasonable to me, to...

    Has D&D jumped the shark?

    Has D&D jumped the shark?

I admit that I amrather fond of Racial Substitution levels. Not that every one has necessarily been done well, but that the notion that following 'type' is rewarded. A DM can use that idea to encourage stereotypes in his game, without denying players the flexibility to play their characters any...

    Improvements after 3.5

Well, the only real rules change has been to add Swift and Immediate actions. Everything else has been refinement of presentation (though I admit that refining Skills usage borders on a rules change). And these new actions are just an attempt to codify what has otherwise been included in the...

    Do you like plots?

Ahhhh... yes, the missed session in the plot-intensive campaign. It might not matter, if only minor plots are resolved, but it can be that you miss the key bits. Heck, I've seen PCs attack people who were allies, because they'd missed a session where previous expectations were turned upside...

Too many ingredients make the soup flavorless?

Perhaps part of the problem stems from seeing the PCs as indicative of the make-up the world? If PCs are meant to be a typical cross-section of their society, then, yes I would guess that it would make some societies seem seriously weird! But if the PCs are simply the special folks to whom...

    Do you like plots?

Another aspect of the over-plotted campaign is simply player confusion. I am experiencing that myself (albeit in an Ars Magica campaign ratehr than a D&D one). There are now so many threads and subplots and personal quests that the campaign feels like a morass. I know that it's straight in the...

Your preferred name for the Queen of Spiders

The best advice for those who can't ask a Welsh person to say it for them is to imagine that the sound is HL - start sounding a 'huh' and slide into 'luh'. It's not quite correct but pretty close. EDIT: oh, and on topic, I agree that I see LLoth as either the Welsh or Spanish pronunciations, so...

    Cursed items

I agree - that's usually the rationale for the existence of certain cursed items. But I admit that I do prefer the "good" cursed items to a simple "bad" one. For example, the +2 sword that must drink blood before it can be relinquished and resheathed. Using it on things like elementals and oozes...

If you could Add one more race to the PHB

I am torn between two of the Eberron races: Changelings and Shifters. The former are just plain disturbing, the latter are a driven people. If I had to pay a price for adding them, I'd lose the 'half' races.

    Standard D&D cosmology and souls

An interesting thought might be that souls spontaneously generate on the Prime Material Plane. That makes that plane even more important as a battleground of the Gods - where else are you going to get future supplicants on your home plane. (As an aside, I prefer the notion of reincarnation as...
