    What is "The Forge?"

    But I'm 15th-level! Hey, where's my sig?!?!

    What is "The Forge?"

I'm not representing a big publisher. I am not a big publisher. I have many games in print and I have not taken a mortgage out on my house. I do not own the IP. Many people have done all the things you talk about on RPG Now, yet, the Forge is different. The Forge claims that its games are...

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

Maybe he's not, I don't know him, but if he wrote: ""But unlike it's predecessors, this system is versatile and powerful..." " then maybe he just doesn't come across well in writing. :) To outright tell people that what you've done is better with no justification is either pretension or lack...

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

I use a lot of this shortcutting in my D&D game as well. I'm just saying. :) I love new games that encourage new ways to look at roleplaying, but I'm not a big fan of pretension. It seems these two aspects of my personality are always at conflict when discussing the Forge. :)

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

I have no doubt it doesn't count. ;)

    What is "The Forge?"

I agree, this subject is veering into an area I've been thinking a lot about over the past 12-18 months...and, gasp, done so without visiting the Forge a single time! :) I'm not denigrating self-publishers, except ones that claim their tightly focused mega-niche game handles every aspect of...

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

What if my goal is to level up? I know exactly what I must do to do this.

    What is "The Forge?"

A complete roleplaying game system will try to anticipate how it will be used by the end user. If you want to have a little specialty game that does one thing, then you don't have to do this. It's much easier, simpler, which is why self-publishers might choose to go this route. However, these...

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

If I fail the roll, can I just say I don't sneak into the camp anymore? What if I change my mind when I'm in the camp, or what if circumstances change? Do I essentially make one roll and then sit back and listen as the GM tells me the story of what happens to my character for the next hour...

    What is "The Forge?"

I'm not saying you are. Defensive? Maybe. :D I too would like to know what commercial designers know that others don't, since, as a commercial designer, I must know it but wouldn't know what it is! :)

    What is "The Forge?"

Oh I know how nice you can be. :p Sorry, self-publishers. That still includes most of the companies represented at RPGNow.

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

Examples of play would definitely be expedient in this case.

    What is "The Forge?"

That's good, I didn't want this to become the RPG.net thread, and there's already a lot of baggage on this issue (I didn't participate in that thread, but read it). It seems like you're taking eyebeams' statement as an attack on the Forge, and you've reworded his initial statement to sound more...

    Explain Burning Wheel to me

I've used both RoS and BW for my Star Wars game and they work great.
  15. d20Dwarf

    What is "The Forge?"

Come on Paka, this ain't RPG.net. :) Eyebeams' assertion was no crazier than "we at the Forge have influenced every major RPG of the 21st Century and beyonnndddd-oonnnd-ooonnnd." :) I know you love the Forge and all, but not everybody thinks it's useful or even relevant to the day-to-day...

    What is "The Forge?"

Whether or not this is true (and most people figure it out eventually), what does it have to do with the Forge? The Forge is the last place *anyone* should go for any type of relationship advice (yes, that includes NTL :D ).

    What is "The Forge?"

If by "interesting" you mean "oh God don't let him near 4e" then I agree. :) Seriously, he seems to be one of the biggest Kool Aid drinkers there, and I really don't want D&D to be ruined by a "What is G/N/S?" section in the introduction to the 4e DMG. I mean, he came out and basically said that...

TSR paid $1,000,000 for the Dragonlance logo? (New: Response from the authors)

I don't doubt a million was paid. UPS paid a million for its current logo...yes, a square with two lines. :) At its highest levels, marketing and advertising are huge cash cows where reputation can earn you very large sums. While in Chicago I witnessed a photographer come to a meeting 45 minutes...

"Its a bowling ball" "It say's Homer"

Yeah, I'm kinda mad, because now I don't think I'm getting the pen that's on my Christmas list. :(
  20. d20Dwarf

    I hate Christmas

But he has grown really attached to that pen all of a sudden.
