Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

That sounds rather heavy in all of the context we live in. But I sadly have to second this argument. The thought of getting back to an ideal state of something which lies often in the past is overwhelming these days (and maybe has been there throughout human history). If I'm getting too...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

I sense that there is a misunderstanding of what theater of the mind really means. Parmadur is saying (correct me if I'm wrong) that totm is simply smth like "taking the miniatures game from the table into the realm of the thoughts". The other side believes that totm is truly more abstract in...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Please, guys, could you stop writing out The Traitor's name out loud? I'm really not that superstitious but you know what they say: "When HIS name is written down on forums HE will descent again and HIS rule will be terrible." It just gives me... chills.

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Ah, 4E, my beloved friend, we have been through stormy times. But I rest easy now that the interest in being mean to you passed on to other targets. Even now I can pride myself with "playing this very niche rpg that was waaaay ahead of its time, you probably never heard of it" while I stroke...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

Well, they produced a game edition where the combats are tactically engaging and can take too long for certain people. I wouldn't call that "onetrueway-ism". I can't see anyone who is saying "Why can't I play grid based and tactical combat in Vampire? Clearly White Wolf suffers from...

Speculation about "the feelz" of D&D 4th Edition

I like most of the analysis that is discussed here. Pretty spot on. Just to add my perspective: 4E "feels" for me like a healthy breed of classical rpg and a board game. It has a rpg's dynamic and storytelling and the structure and clarity of a well designed board game. This is exactly what I...

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

First of all: cool, that you have played 4E for the last couple of years. :) Second: I never thought about it that way, but SR really is about those one time jobs that could tie to a bigger campaign structure, but don't have to. So rotating the GM is perfectly fine! (I could use some of that in...

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

Phew, that sound quite... intimidating to be honest. As I get older I really like rules light systems (or at least those with a manageable amount of obscure rules). SR has its merrits, don't get me wrong, but I prefer systems where I don't have to be Leonardo da Vinci to run them properly. :)

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

I also thought about playing in the SR universe but using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire ruleset. Because SR is basically a frantic rollercoaster of heists and other illicit operations and would profit from a slick action and narrative based approach imo. I'm not sure what the community thinks...

D&D 4E Changing the Combat Parameters of 4th Edition

Hey guys, thank you for all of your good ideas. I took notes on how to structure encounters without them being single fights but rather "waves" with time between them. This is something that I will definitely try out in my next sessions. I love the tactical battles of 4E and like to do fights...

    Anyone still interested in Shadowrun?

Love the campy world and the fluff books are often a good read by themselves. But man, those rules. I ran 3rd and 4th Edition for some (rather short) time and dropped it without regret. Now they released a story-focused "lighter" version called Shadowrun: Anarchy which I find far more compelling.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

We had at first six players (plus DM) and after two sessions one left. Since then everybody else kept playing.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Yes, they were a group of friends before. I got to know them a year before they talked about "this one game where you play heroes and it's like a boardgame but bigger and you fight orcs". I suggested myself for DM and off we went. This was about one and a half years ago. About attrition: Do...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Okay, I'll also try my best on the helm to steer this thread gently back on topic: Today was a very nice 4E evening indeed. I DMed the 15th session of a nice little campaign with a group that never has played P&P RPGs before. The campaign is set in the Nentir Vale and the PCs try to help Lord...

    Help with Eberron

Oooh, yes! A year ago I wanted to start initially with the Legacy of Dhakaan (because Goblinoids rule!) and realized that there was a trilogy before that. So I had to read the Dragon Below first and was very pleased with it. :) Thanks also for the all-clear signal on Keith Baker's later works...

    Help with Eberron

I would second this opinion. A majority of the Eberron novels are really not that bad. Funny, but I finished the Dragon Below Trilogy only yesterday and find it not only a fun an engaging read but also a great use of the Eberron setting. The first Dreaming Dark book was also written okay-ish and...

Uncover The Grand Design In ZEITGEIST'S Second Act For D&D 4th Edition!

    Can't Renew my DDI SUB

I used to make characters from PHB1 or the Essentials books quite quickly without the online tools. I even found the character creation process described in the Essentials very useful for an "analog" approach to making a PC. The crucial thing is to know on which resources/books you want to...

    Adventure help needed

Well, when than it surely was a tough first fight of the day. :) There is nothing wrong with your thoughts on possible outcomes in this scenario. Captivity would lead to a possible escape scene - that's good. And calling in reinforcements will put the players in a situation in which they have...
