I have a vague idea about an arcane caster who's focused on the various Prismatic spells (probably with levels in Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, if that's OK). I have an overwhelming urge to cast Prismatic Spray while yelling "Taste the rainbow!" :)

I agree that the Leadership feat has a real place. I think the problem is that D&D tries to have it both ways. There's the Leadership feat, but then there are affiliations and teamwork benefits which you get if your GM is feeling generous or is impressed with your roleplaying. If game balance...

I like this. And to travel between the worlds you have to find "weak spots." Of course, any place that's land in one world is open ocean in the other and vice-versa. I picture a mage transporting himself and an entire sailing vessel through a weak spot into central Kansas. :)

This is what's been bugging me lately (though it may be slightly off-topic for this thread). As nerfherder says, a "hit" that does damage is just using up luck/dodging at first. Unless you use poison, in which case the weapon must have broken the skin to work. So when the drow are peppering...

This sounds very much like a D&D Miniatures warband, and leads to another option. You could use DDM miniatures and rules (if you have them) for everybody but the PCs and the important bad guys (faction leaders and big critters). Let the players help run the DDM factions as suggested.

Really? The difference I see is that Manyshot calls for only one attack roll. With Scorching Ray you have to roll to hit with each one. But if that's the example they used in Complete Arcane, I guess that answers it. I'll have to look at that when I get home.

This is exactly what I do. But in this case it would be nice if there was something to discard. :) It's far too easy, when you're winging it, to say "the PCs are filthy rich...they should be paying their employees way better than this." It would be nice if there was a baseline "going rate"...
